10 New Shows and Movies to Stream (With AC Blasting) This Weekend

It’s officially summer now. If anyone was debating it earlier, the hot temperatures popping up this week should plant everyone firmly in a warm weather state of mind. When a heat wave hits, it’s too brutal to be outdoors unless you’re poolside. So if you’re sans pool access, we recommend curling up next to an AC vent or sitting in front of a fan and queuing up these 10 movies and shows to keep you company. Stay cool out there.

BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW SHOWS

1. The Night Of on HBO: If you’re a sucker for crime dramas, HBO has your newest addiction. The miniseries follows a fictional New York murder case while casting a critical eye on the legal system and Rikers Island, the city’s main jail complex. (Photo via HBO)

2. Are You the One? on Hulu and MTV: Tune in for the season premiere of this intriguing reality show. Contestants are paired up with their “perfect match” before the show starts, and they spend the entire season trying to figure out who it is. Dating is hard enough as it is, and it’s even harder when the pressure is ON. (Photo via MTV)

CULT CLASSICS

3. Fish Tank on Hulu, YouTube and Amazon: Teen angst is a powerful thing, especially when it’s captured in a movie as thoughtful as this. The indie drama won tons of awards when it premiered back in 2009, and it remains a great watch for those days when you’re feeling a little moody. (Photo via IFC)

4. Best in Show on Amazon: Some people watch dog shows for the breeds. This hysterical mockumentary will convince you to watch dog shows with a whole new eye for the handlers. If nothing else, watch it for the all-star cast: Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge and Catherine O’Hara all have killer roles. (Photo via Warner Bros)

BADASS LEADING LADIES

5. Mustang on Amazon: Strength shows itself in different ways. This powerful film follows a group of orphaned girls in Turkey as their innocent games with boys are misconstrued by adults and change everybody’s life. It’s been compared to The Virgin Suicides for its beautiful shots and nuanced understanding of girlhood. (Photo via Cohen Media Group)

6. Kill Bill on Amazon: How do we love Kill Bill? Let us count the ways: Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, Uma Thurman’s kick-ass yellow leather suit, beautiful cinematography, Uma Thurman kicking butt and a KILLER soundtrack. Did we mention Uma Thurman? (Photo via Miramax)

MOVIES THAT WILL HAUNT YOU

7. The Lovely Bones on Netflix and Amazon: The murder of a child is always heartbreaking, but when it’s depicted from the child’s own perspective in the afterlife, it’ll really put you through the ringer. This haunting film stars Saoirse Ronan, Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon and a very creepy Stanley Tucci. (Photo via DreamWorks)

8. The Big Short on Netflix and Amazon: If you need more proof of how effed up the 2008 financial crash was, Selena Gomez will explain it to you. The surprisingly entertaining film about finance stars Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell, Christian Bale, Marisa Tomei and Brad Pitt, along with guest appearances from Margot Robbie and Anthony Bourdain. FILMS THAT PROVE LOVE IS STRANGE

9. Working Girl on Netflix and Amazon: Melanie Griffith plays an ambitious secretary whose idea is stolen by her boss. She then plots to pull herself up by her bootstraps and her wit. It’s a funny, classic rom-com that will inspire ambition for your career and your love life. The movie also features Susan Sarandon, Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Kevin Spacey. 10. Your Sister’s Sister on Hulu and Netflix: Sleeping with your best friend’s sibling is pretty much always a bad idea. Except for when, maybe, it isn’t? This quirky rom-com, starring Emily Blunt and Mark Duplass, is a study in drunken trysts and complicated relationships. (Photo via IFC Films)
