How to Get the Look of All the Girls Quirky NYC Apartments

Forget Sex and the City‘s version of NYC living — the show Girls shows you what it *really* looks like to live in the Big Apple as a broke twenty-something. And it looks small and cramped, and might involve an unsavory roommate giving birth in your bathtub. But that doesn’t mean the girls — Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shosh — don’t give their tiny spaces their own special touch. In honor of this much-loved series ending, we’re hanging on any way we can, and that includes stealing a few home decor ideas from these crazy girls. Featuring an eclectic collection of trends, vintage finds and hipster-friendly small space living solutions, these apartments are as interesting as Hannah’s relationship drama and Jessa’s excellent boho home decor. Scroll on to see how you can get the look for your own home.

Hannah’s Apartment

HanAdam (that’s a thing, right?) totally made it work when it came to combining his-and-hers decor, and even though Adam has been replaced by Hannah’s new leading man, Fran, the apartment hasn’t changed much. The quirky mix of off-the-wall elements — mismatched dining chairs FTW — and retro finds makes it totally believable that a few of these pieces were bought on Craigslist or the Brooklyn Flea. The midcentury wall decor and bright color palette feels youthful and effortlessly cool. The apartment’s artsy and eccentric set-up is totally believable for a couple of neurotic twenty-somethings.

Hannah’s apartment shows off her love of all things pre-loved and is stocked with interesting finds and achievable DIY projects. Get Hannah’s vintage modern look with a leather arm chair and the recognizable blue couch. Keep the space grounded with a jute rug and add a midcentury dresser for books and TV storage. Add a couple of vintage and unexpected accessories, like a rotary phone or a funky pair of mugs.

Target Midcentury Modern Dresser ($430), Chairish Black Western Electric Rotary Dial Telephone ($199), El-Aich Double Trouble Mugs ($40, set of two), Trademark Global Leaning Bookcase ($70), Opulence Home Bradford Leather Arm Chair ($949), Lulu & Georgia Evon Pouf ($305), Pottery Barn Frankie Jute Rug ($359+), IKEA STOCKSUND Sofa ($799)

Marnie’s Apartment

Marnie is all about control and taste, so it’s no surprise her former hubbie’s constant renovation projects drove her crazy. We can only imagine what Marnie’s apartment will look like in the future, once she finally gets those walls finished. Since Marnie has a background in art, we imagine her wall art would be super on point. You probably won’t find a lot of unnecessary clutter in her apartment either, and not just because she has zero shelf space.

Marnie is all about contemporary minimalism and zero clutter. But she’s also a little confused and always trying to find herself, so her style fluctuates with whoever she’s living with ATM. If you love Marnie’s minimal, artsy vibe, throw down a vintage rug and pick up an eclectic mix of furniture like a green velvet couch, modern side chair and industrial bookshelves. Of all the Girls girls, Marnie is the most likely to keep a plant alive and have an artsy cactus print on the wall.

Ronay Rustic Industrial Bookshelf ($180), Eric Trine Octahedron Ring Planter ($55), H&M Small Stoneware Vase ($13), Lulu & Georgia Painted Cactus Print ($18), Lulu & Georgia Marbella Throw ($141), Lulu & Georgia Astern Gold Faceted Stool ($478), Home Decorators Collection Mila Ottoman ($359), Glitter Guide Elodie Rug ($225+), Joss & Main Brandon Side Chair ($360), Bryght Sven Sofa ($2500)

Jessa’s Apartment

Jessa is a free spirit who never really settles down anywhere, and in season five, she’s looking after Shosh’s apartment while Shosh is in Japan. She’s replaced Shosh’s girly pink accents and French motifs with more neutral colors and natural textures.

Jessa’s style is undoubtedly bohemian. So if she ever did decide to settle down in an apartment, her place would be a combination of travel mementos and eclectic fashion. Get the same well-traveled, complex look with lots of textures and metallics. Then set the scene with a Moroccan shag rug and a modern desk with an industrial stool. Lighten things up with gold and silver lamps and make sure you don’t forget your jute bag when you head out to the next farmer’s market.

H&M Jute Bag ($25), Grace Blush Pink and Copper Wall Clock ($30), H&M Scented Candle ($15), Lamps Plus Double Mercury Glass Table Lamp ($150), Annie Montgomery Rose S’il Vous Plait Print ($20), Target Dakota Adjustable Barstool ($76+), nuLoom Moderna Moroccan Shag Area Rug ($123), Dot & Bo Z Chair ($954), Threshold Brass Task Lamp ($57), PBteen Simple A-Frame Desk ($199+)

Shoshanna’s Apartment

Shoshanna was absolutely killing it in the decor department with her rad Tokyo pod apartment. The colors are wacky, the kitchen is sunken and there is a hanging chair in the living room — what’s not to love about this place?? And if you can’t get enough of the quirky design, you can totally rent Shoshanna’s Tokyo apartment IRL.

If you love color and alarm clocks that talk to you, Shosh’s apartment is the look for you. She gets style points for her accent pieces choices like hanging planters and a big photo board to remember her BFFs on the other side of the world. Get the same look with plenty of color, lucite and lots of unusual style picks.

Dot & Bo Bottoms Up Hanging Planter ($22), Wayfair Green Tea Kettle ($45), Target Umbra Retro Photo Line ($17), Endless Japan Clock Man ($38), Dot & Bo Pod Hanging Chair ($1830), Paper Lantern Store Ivory Round Paper Lantern ($4)
