This New Year’s Resolution Is One You’ll Totally Keep

It’s almost the New Year, which means you’re probably planning to run your first marathon, eat all organic and cook more meals at home. Last year, staying fit and healthy and losing weight topped the list of resolutions, according to research from Nielsen. But if you want to break away from your usual health declarations for 2016, here’s something fun and easy you can do that won’t require a full-year commitment: Fiiinally upgrade your space.

We spoke with Havenly, a service that provides customers with a decorating advisor and recommendations based on a style quiz, to get the lowdown on this fun New Year’s resolution.

“People looking to redecorate know what they like but are afraid to make big purchases when they aren’t sure how everything will come together,” says Shelby Girard, Havenly’s director of design. “It’s moving past this fear and instilling confidence in your decisions that will help with the process.”

But where to begin? Girard says there’s no better place than the living room because it tends to be the heart of the home. “It’s the place where you entertain, host guests and spend a majority of your time,” she says. “It’s also the space that makes the biggest first impression, so starting there is always a smart bet when redecorating for the New Year.”

Once you’ve decided which room you’d like to start with, you can buy everything you need through a custom shopping list created by Havenly, which features various retailers. And if your other resolution is to save money, you’ll love this: Havenly gives customers merchandise credits when they buy custom design packages.

If you opt for a full design package, an advisor will also help you decide on the best layout for the room and give you a rendering so you know how to arrange everything from furniture to rugs to artwork.

This is a creative New Year’s resolution we can really get behind.
