Now You Can Turn Your Instagram Photos into Custom Nike Sneakers

Are you ready for the latest Insta-thingamajig? It was only a matter of time before Nike, known for stellar color customization options, got on the Instagram bandwagon. Presenting NIKE PHOTOiD, an app that lets you turn Instagram photos into a one-of-a-kind kicks.

Before getting started, we definitely recommend checking out the NIKE PHOTOiD gallery to get inspired.

Now, here’s how it works. Head to the Nike site and log into your Instagram account.

A stream of your photos (starting with the most recent ones) will show up, allowing you to choose a photo that inspires you. We love the idea of pulling creative color palettes from unexpected places – who knew that that concert photo of yours would look great in sneaker form?

A super colorful animated GIF entertains you as your shoe is being created.

And then, voila. A shoe is born. You get to check out 4 shoe options based on your photo and then it’s time to buy!

At the checkout screen, you get one more chance to change up your colors. A pair of these bad boys will set you back $135, which ain’t too shabby considering how cool it is to design your own shoes.

We love that you can peruse other peoples’ designs by color and shoe type. You can even buy a pair based on someone else’s photo – though another person’s bowl of Lucky Charms seems on the random side.

All in all, it’s as if an app like Kuler Create merged with Nike iD in a fun and playful way. It’s hard to say whether this will become a popular thing beyond the initial release, but we’re digging the concept of turning colorful photographs into colorful kicks.

What do you think of this latest Nike innovation? Over the Insta-fication of everything? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
