Who says you have to jet to the cafe to grab a biscotti? Make a batch of this crunchy treat at home, filled with lush figs and toasted walnuts. Enjoy with a hot cup of coffee (Duh!).

  • dried Turkish or Calimyrna figs, quartered  ( 1 cup )
  • unsalted butter, softened  ( 3/4 stick (6 tablespoons or 3 ounces) )

  • dark brown sugar, packed  ( 6 tablespoons )
  • eggs  ( 2 )
  • pure vanilla extract  ( 1 teaspoon )
  • Grated zest of 1/2 a large orange (I used a clementine)

  • egg white, lightly beaten  ( 1 )
