Taylor Swift is certainly no stranger to celebrity feuds — just ask Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and Katy Perry. But considering her famous squad seems to be falling apart (as one of its most famous members just bailed and Ed Sheeran might have relaxed his loyalties), Taylor Swift might want to focus more on forging friendships than fueling feuds. Unfortunately for the “Bad Blood” singer, she and Miley Cyrus have just been dragged into yet another showbiz spat.
This isn’t the first time that Taylor Swift has gotten herself involved in a beef with Nicki Minaj, which also saw Miley Cyrus step in to intervene (and even an eventual peace-making gesture by Swift and Minaj), but things are a bit different this time around, most notably that there are even more folks involved in this apparently ongoing feud.
Let’s head back to last Thursday, when Minaj released a track with Gucci Mane called “Make Love” and a few of the lyrics immediately sparked a buzz. “Oh, you the queen of this here? One platinum plaque, album flopped, b****, where? You see, silly rabbit, to be the queen of rap / You gotta sell records, you gotta get plaques.” Is Nicki Minaj rapping about Swift or Cyrus? Nope. She’s referring to Remy Ma, who’s been Minaj’s rival for years.
In response, Remy Ma released a whopping seven-minute track called “ShETHER” (which has since disappeared from Soundcloud) that was perfectly clear in its intention (even including some vicious artwork that clearly targeted Minaj). “Tried to disrespect Taylor ’cause Taylor wasn’t Swift enough… How are you on the VMAs acting like you hood? / Way across the stage, talking ’bout ‘Miley, what’s good?’ / That’s Hannah Montana, she was always happy.” That’s right, Remy takes aim at Nicki Minaj by dragging both Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus back into the brawl.
At another time, this might have earned a bit of a reaction from Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus, but considering Swift is still keeping out of the spotlight and Cyrus has more Liam Hemsworth-related things to occupy her time, we have to doubt there will be much of a stir from their corners.
As for Nicki Minaj, well, she not only “came with the receipts,” but she also reminded the world that Beyoncé herself crowned Minaj as the queen of rap.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
