These Watercolor Tattoos Are *Literally* Art on Your Body

Maybe you’ve sworn you’d never get a tattoo, but after seeing these beautiful watercolor tattoo creations by the artist Silo, you may have to change your mind. Working out of one of the two Aro Tattoo studios in Seoul, Korea, Silo’s tattoos are truly works of art… and definitely inspo for anyone in search of tattoo ideas. They don’t even look like tats, just beautiful paintings that happen to be on your body instead of a canvas.

Silo has over 12,000 followers on Instagram, but his popularity comes as no surprise: He totally reinvents typical tattoo expectations. Instead of hard edges, you get soft lines. Instead of dark colors, it’s all about beautiful spring pastels. And no skulls around here; Silo’s main subjects are adorable cats, flowers, butterflies and other sweet creatures. On the studio’s website, Aro Tattoo said customers are encouraged to send through the design first before collaborating with the artist to create the piece. Take a look at these gorgeous flowers below.

Seriously, these tattoos are absolutely exquisite. Look at the detail!

In our series Selfmade U, we’ll tackle the most common questions and pain points that come up for business owners with tips and tricks from Selfmade, a virtual business coaching program, founded by Brit + Co founder Brit Morin and sponsored by Office Depot OfficeMax. We’ll hear from Selfmade members and business coaches on what it takes to run a successful business and make it as an entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurship can be demanding, challenging, unpredictable, and deeply satisfying. The wins, big and small, help you rise above the challenges and there are so many perks to being your own boss (set your own schedule, do creative work you love, work from wherever, to name a few). But sometimes you can find yourself stuck on a problem – with nowhere to turn.

“I didn’t really feel like I had a community around me here in Maryland. We moved after the pandemic to be closer to my husband’s family,” says Lucia Diaz, a first-generation Colombian-American and the founder of LUCIA DIAZ, a Latina-owned business dedicated to empowering and honoring Latinas through illustration. “My artworks are a reflection of my commitment to provide cultural representation and instill pride in mujeres poderosas.” That is, powerful women like her.

Lucia turned to Selfmade, receiving an Office Depot OfficeMax scholarship to the program, to help her connect with business mentors and other female founders. “Being the first one in my family to build a business of this magnitude, it's really comforting to have mentors, especially of color or who come from first-generation immigrant families,” says Lucia. “The Selfmade Community is just an outpouring of love and just lots of great women who understand what you're going through and help put you in the right direction with the right resources.”

Lucia has had a banner year, her third in business. She has partnered with major fashion and beauty brands, like Tiffany & Co., Chanel, and Estee Lauder, and has curated a show of 100 LatinX artists at the The Oculus Center in NYC for Hispanic Heritage Month. We caught up with Lucia before she was heading out to NYC to speak at the United Nations Science Summit about the digital art exhibit.

Here’s Lucia’s day in the life!

6AM I start my day early, doing a lot of journaling, meditation, giving my cats some love and attention. My Selfmade mentor was like, “You can't just get up and go and just read emails. You have to do something for yourself first!” I've noticed that once I do my morning routine and just really focus on myself first, I tend to have a much better day.

7AM I head to the gym and listen to one of my favorite audiobooks, “I Will Teach You to Be Rich" by Ramit Sethi or "Wealth Warrior" by Linda Garcia, running at my own pace (AKA not super fast!). This is something that I established this year. I feel like I'm much happier now and I feel so grounded and connected to self.

9AM I record two The Art of Representation podcast interviews. Today's interviews were withAlyssa Reynoso-Morris, an Afro-Latina author, and Vero M. Estrada, a life coach. I use Zencastr to record the episode and then I'll use Canva to automate my podcast bookings. To collect guest information, I'll use Google Forms, which will help me create the blog post for fearlessyaya.com. Finally, I'll prepare the podcast links and content for social media. To save time, I'll also schedule social media reels in advance.

12PM I enjoy a lunch of my mom’s amazing beef and potato empanadas. Whenever I visit her, she'll always pack me some empanadas even though I tell her to rest now that she’s retired.:) I am from Colombia and I always feel connected to home through food.

1PM I answer emails and work on my United Nations speech for next week. I'm researching every panelist and just really digging through their history, so I can ask them specific questions.

I'm super honored that my friend Sandy Martinez selected me to be the first moderator. I remember being a little girl presenting a book report and being so nervous. Now I'm presenting to the UN and it's crazy. It's a dream. When I told my dad he teared up and my mom was bawling. She's like, “How is it that we migrated to this country and now you get to speak to delegates from not only all over the world but delegates also from Colombia.” So it's really powerful.

The main thing that I will touch on is the work that I've been doing with an orphanage in Colombia called CASA HOGAR NAZARETH. For the last seven years, I've been able to donate proceeds. Last year, I was able to donate a whole collection’s worth of proceeds to the orphanage because I had a really great year. My grandfather, Manuel, was an orphan. He raised 12 children, was a rural farmer, and became a leader in his community and made sure to take care of others. That's what he instilled in me. If there's enough for me, there's enough for everybody. We can make it work.

3PM I Zoom with some of the artists to help them upload their artwork for the exhibit. I want to make sure they can all participate. They are artists from all over Latin America, from the Caribbean, from Venezuela and Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and some don’t speak English. I want to make sure they have their chance to show in NYC, many for the first time.

4PM I edit my podcast episodes using Final Cut Pro. I have a passion for video editing. I also create eye-catching thumbnails for YouTube and social media using Adobe Photoshop. My workflow involves scheduling episodes two months in advance, which I attribute to my detail-oriented nature – perhaps it's my inner Virgo shining through!;)

6PM I have dinner with my husband. He is the one who encouraged me to take the leap and start my business. He’s been so supportive.

7PM After dinner, we like to walk by the creek. It’s something my mom and dad used to do. In Colombia, there are a lot of waterfalls and little lakes and places that you would go and reconnect with nature.

8PM I work on my artwork. Fridays are my days for my own art, where I illustrate and I draw for myself. I don't have an agenda. Sometimes it is personal illustrations. Other times it's illustrations of incredible women in the Latin community. I don't take meetings on Fridays. I'm not posting anything on Instagram. I'm not answering any phone calls or emails. I literally hide my phone in my safe and I asked my husband to change the code [laughs].

Lucia also started a stationery business and uses her printers from Office Depot to support her print business. “Aside from my services, I develop greeting cards and stationery and work on showing how through stationery we celebrate the holidays and milestones in our Latinx community.”

Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce are always making headlines for being the cutest couple ever, and that includes their latest vacation. Apparently, the duo is craving summer as much as the rest of us because, during Taylor's break from the Eras Tour, they traded colder temps and concerts for a Bahamas vacation! They were seen sipping cocktails on the beach, swimming, and sipping cocktails *while* swimming. Taylor Swift and her boyfriend spent their time at the Rosalita vacation house, which you can rent for yourself on Vrbo — for $15k a night. Let's take a look!

Where did Travis and Taylor vacation in the Bahamas?

Image via Vrbo

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce spent time at the Rosalita Oceanfront Estate in Harbour Island, Bahamas. This area of the Bahamas has pink sand beaches, beautiful flowers, and an unbeatable view of the Caribbean Sea. All in all, it's one of those places that looks like a postcard, even when you're there in real life!

The rental (which you can rent for yourself on Vrbo) is made up of one main house and a guest house. The main house features five bedrooms, with a sixth in the guest house. The name of the game is privacy with this vacation house because each suite in the whole estate has a private terrace, ensuite bathroom, and private entrance from the garden.

The most important part IMO is the fact the Bahamas vacation house comes with private chefs! I'm a huge foodie and when I travel, my non-negotiable is that I have plenty of local food. If I went on a Bahamas vacation with endless food options, I would be one happy camper!

How much does it cost to stay in Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's Bahamas vacation house?

Image via Vrbo

If you want to stay in Taylor Swift's Bahamas vacation house, you can! All you have to do is shell out $15 thousand a night (via The New York Post), no biggie. With laundry, a pool, and a gym (not to mention the full staff and the private chefs), you definitely get a lot for $15k. However, if you'd rather save some cash for things like souvenirs or local restaurants, you can try this Oleander Gardens home instead.

What is the average cost of a trip to the Bahamas?

Image via Vrbo

Flights to the Bahamas can range anywhere from $500 to $1,900, so it really depends on when you book, which airline you pick, and where you're flying from. (It appears to be a little more expensive flying from LA than from NYC). All in all, a Bahamas vacation won't be cheap, but a budget, intentional spending choices, and making a plan ahead of time will make it more affordable!

What is the best time to go to the Bahamas?

Image via Vrbo

If you ask me, any time of year is a good time for a Bahamas vacation. However, if you suffer from the winter blues, anytime from November to March is a great idea! The temperatures are usually somewhere in the 70s, and since winter is the dry season, you won't have to worry about too much rain. But I've also been to the Bahamas in July, and while it's hotter, it's still very enjoyable.

Where was Taylor in the Bahamas?

Image via Vrbo

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce stayed at the Rosalita vacation house on Harbour Island, but they've also been seen on the beach, on boat rides, and walking together on the docks. Considering the house features paddle boards, bikes, snorkel equipment, and lots of board games, I can imagine Taylor and Travis have been spending plenty of time relaxing. There's also the option to have on-site yoga or pilates classes — fun!

There’s a lot of conflicting information about tattoo aftercare and healing out there. Considering there are only seven states in which artists are required by law to provide aftercare instructions, it’s easy to get overwhelmed or left in the dark about what exactly to do after your appointment. The tattoo healing process depends on how big the piece is, how intricate it is, and your body’s response to the ink – but all complications can be avoided with proper aftercare procedures to reduce the risk of infection, scarring, fading, or drying out.

The first step to tattoo aftercare actually comes before the needle even touches your skin – picking a reputable, professional tattoo artist ensures you’re getting the very best care and advice, so you can be on your way to rockin’ some cool body art.

Disclaimer: I am by no means a professional, so approach aftercare at your own discretion, taking this information (as well as your tattoo artist’s) with a grain of salt.

1. Keep the second-skin (medical-grade adhesive) on for several days, or however long your artist recommends.

Your artist will likely place a second-skin material over your tattoo after it’s finished. It works as a barrier to keep bacteria out while the tattoo is in its freshest stage, only meant to stay on a few days.

When it’s time to take it off, be patient and go slow to avoid damage to the skin. Before doing this, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly and dry them with a paper towel to avoid additional germs and bacteria that could harvest in a normal hand towel.

Blood and plasma fluid coming out from the second-skin is normal, but if you notice any out-of-the-ordinary excretions or sensations, contact your tattoo artist ASAP.

2. Wash your tattoo with warm water and fragrance-free, unscented, antimicrobial soap.

Photo by Mikhail Nilov / PEXELS

After removing the second skin, the next step in aftercare is to wash off the tatted area. Using a gentle soap ensures that your tattoo doesn’t get any further irritation that could cause unfavorable healing.

When it’s time to wash, move gently, as the area can be tender. You’ll want to start with clean hands and wash with lukewarm water as well, to avoid burning the exposed skin. These are the soaps most commonly used for tattoo aftercare:

3. Moisturize after pat-drying your skin with a paper towel.

Image via People Of Substance

Though petroleum jellies (like Vaseline) can be moisturizing on the lips, it’s no longer widely recommended for tattoo aftercare. Too much of it can create a thick, non-breathable layer on top of your tattoo – less air-flow means slower healing and the potential for ink bleeding. Look to opt for light ointments and balms. Here are a few widely-loved ones:

Bandages or other tight skin coverings are not necessary once you’ve washed off your tattoo. A seal created by these barriers could restrict air-flow, too.

After a week or so, it’s safe to move away from ointments and balms, and onto gentle lotions like the Eucerin Unscented Advanced Repair Body LotionAdvanced Repair Body Lotion ($11, was $13).

4. Avoid *too* hot of showers + no physical activity for at least 48 hours after your appointment.

Heat caused by external factors (weather, hot water, etc) and sweating can increase the risk for the ink on your tattoo to bleed. Plus, moving around too suddenly (like how you would during a workout) causes your skin to stretch, potentially altering your tat’s shape. Not to mention, there’s a very real risk of infection from that grimy gym equipment!

5. Stay out of direct sun for at least 2 weeks.

Photo by Angela Roma / PEXELS

Sun can further damage your ink, so it’s not a good thing for tattoo aftercare. If you have to be out, your first line of defense should be a physical barrier like some loose clothing, then a light layer of mineral zinc oxide-based sunscreen to protect your tat.

6. No underwater activity for at least 2 weeks.

The risk for bacterial infection from the water in pools, hot tubs, lakes, and the ocean is high. That’s why people prefer to get tatted in the winter, where they won’t have to actively avoid swimming and the subsequent FOMO of not diving in.

7. Stay hydrated!

Photo by Anastasia Shuraeva / PEXELS

Hydrating your body hydrates your skin – and having hydrated skin means your tattoo is ready to heal as best as it can. Drinking water throughout the day (don’t go too crazy) certifies that your body can handle the ink. You also might want to avoid alcohol for a bit. It can cause bouts of dehydration and thin your blood, causing excess bleeding from the tattoo’s wound.

This post has been updated.

Last year celebrity stylist Law Roach sent a shockwave through the fashion industry when he announced his retirement from styling. Although his Instagram post dedicated to his decision has been deleted, his caption is still fresh in our minds. He wrote, "If this business was just about the clothes I would do it for the rest of my life but unfortunately it’s not! The politics, the lies and false narratives finally got me! You win … I’m out.”

However, the styling legend is back on the scene just for his #1 client — AKA his little sister and a personal B+C fave — Zendaya! It was hard imagining him taking a step back from helping her serve looks so we're grateful the duo is back. Roach is known for making waves over the last few years thanks to his architectural and design-oriented eye — his choices are bold, beautiful, and all of his clients look like walking pieces of art. One client who constantly makes headlines for her looks (and is a personal B+C fave) is actress Zendaya, who started working with Roach in 2011. In honor of his career, and their sweet bond, we wanted to round up some of our favorite looks from over the years.

Who is Law Roach?

Image via Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

There are many amazing celebrity stylists, but it's easy to find Law Roach's signature touch. He combines his clients' personalities with innovative outfits that have the power to propel their stardom forward and he makes sure his appearance is also on point. No one can do it like him and he's absolutely proud of it.

When did Zendaya start working with Law Roach?

Image via Momodu Mansaray/Getty Images

Prior to becoming a stylist, CNN indicates Roach owned a vintage store in Chicago called Deliciously Vintage. When he realized he could build an actual career as a stylist, he started working his way towards actually being one. He said, "I worked really hard to figure out the ins and outs of being a stylist because I didn’t really have a mentor, I was never anyone’s assistant or an intern.

Well, this hard work paid off because it led him to meet Zendaya while she was filming the Disney series Shake it Up. Together they've created an amazing roster of awards looks that allowed Zendaya's star power to truly shine!

So, was Zendaya the reason Law Roach initially announced his retirement?

twitter.com

None

Negative! After some rumors that there was drama with the actress after he announced his retirement, Roach cleared the air. In honor of them working alongside each other again, here's 14 of the best looks Law Roach styled for Zendaya!

Best Looks Zendaya Has Worn

"Dune" Looks"

"Dune" Red Carpet - The 78th Venice International Film Festival (Sep. 2021)

From Zendaya's tresses to her gorgeous Balmain gown, this ensemble tops our "Dune" looks coverage. With the addition of the stunning emerald Bvlgari jewels she wore, we dare say she looks like a true personification of a stylish mermaid.

UK Special Screening of "Dune" in London ( Oct. 2021)

One thing Law Roach is going to do is drape Zendaya in a look that matches the theme of whatever event she's attending. For the UK special screening of "Dune" in 2021, Grazia shared that he styled his muse in this celestial Rick Owens gown that had asymmetrical sleeves. Adored in tiny glitter sequins, the gown highlighted Zendaya's makeup and braided updo.

"Dune: Part Two" World Premiere in London (Feb. 2024)

Law Roach is known to step outside of the box to create or pull memorable looks for Zendaya, but I don't think we've fully recovered from this. Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter's watchful eye, we know this futuristic look was designed by the one and only Thierry Mugler. We love that it's a part of his 1995 couture collection because it signals that he was ahead of his time. If we didn't know better, we'd say this outfit was designed with someone like Zendaya in mind.

"Dune: Part Two" - Press Conference (Feb. 2024)

Zendaya and her co-star tuned bestie Timothée Chalamet turned heads for all the right reasons at a press conference in Seoul, South Korea for "Dune: Part Two." Fashionista reported that the pair were dressed in matching boiler jumpsuits from Juun.J's Spring 2024 collection.

"Dune: Part Two" Premiere at Lincoln Center (Feb. 2024)

Zendaya was the picture of perfection at the Dune: Part Two premiere at the Lincoln Center in New York. ABC News learned Law Roach styled her in a jaw-dropping gown from Stéphane Rolland's Spring/Summer Haute Couture 2024 collection. It's yet another look she's worn that complements the theme and undertones of the Dune franchise.

Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination Met Gala (May 2018)

If Saint Joan of Arc were reincarnated, she'd come back wearing this metallic piece worn by Zendaya at the 2018 Met Gala. The theme was "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination" and Law Roach understood the assignment. Harper's Bazaarnoted that she wore a "custom metallic Versace gown"

Met Gala Camp: Notes on Fashion (May 2019)

The electric update to Cinderella's dress at the 2019 Met Gala signaled Zendaya's move from Disney media to more adult roles like Euphoria. This look was fitting because Law Roach feels like Zendaya's fairy style mother! Enlisting the help of designer Tommy Hilfiger, W Magazine reports this gown was specifically designed to light up.

Tiffany & Co. Paper Flowers Event And Believe In Dreams Campaign Launch (May 2018)

This '60s-inspired outfit screams Jackie O. In addition to the feminine jewelry and bow neckline, we love Roach's playful attention to details like polka dot heels and a voluminous silhouette.

CFDA Fashion Awards (Nov. 2021)

Not only did Zendaya wear this lovely Vera Wang design that makes us want to give bandeau tops and peplum silhouettes another chance, but she also wore it while accepting the CFDA Fashion Icon Award in 2021!

Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man: No Way Home" Los Angeles Premiere (Dec. 2021)

Law Roach didn't have to conjure up this custom Valentino gown for Zendaya the way he did in 2021, but here we are. It featured an intricate web design that was on par with the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home and we think we're still trying to recover from it!

Image via Mike Coppola/Getty Images

94th Annual Academy Awards (March 2022)

Leave it to Law Roach and Zendaya to make a cropped, satin button-up top and a flowing sequin maxi skirt look amazing. It's a classic look that received the highest of upgrades and feels like something that can be worn in 2024.

Image via Momodu Mansaray/Getty Images

HBO Max FYC Event For "Euphoria" (April 2022)

Her character Rue on Euphoria may be a mess, but this tailored Fear of God outfit was not! Law Roach took another classic silhouette and helped it make a statement.

Image via Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

74th Primetime Emmys (Sep. 2022)

For her history-making win at the 2020 Emmy Awards, where she became the youngest actress to win Best Actress in a Drama, Zendaya wore this strapless black peplum dress that gives the sweetheart wedding dress a twist. It was super chic and sweet just like the starlet.

Image via Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

54th NAACP Image Awards (Feb. 2023)

Zendaya's green and black look (paired with her already-iconic bob) was the talk of the internet at the 2023 NAACP Awards. We're obsessed with how the bright green offsets the simplicity of the dress.

Law: Thank you for coming back!
