3 Prom Dress Trends and Instagram Inspo
From “promposals” to dress shopping to hair and makeup, almost all aspects of prom and prom planning begin and end with Instagram and Pinterest. The ladies are watching and saving faves months, even sometimes a year, in advance. Though prom isn’t until fall, prom inspo is breaking out now. Here are 23 prom dresses that are ready to go now. And here’s what we’re seeing on Instagram for Prom 2016.
Showing a bit of skin within a school’s dress code is the challenge — and the Instababes are killing it. The key to making it work is to highlight one area of the body and cover up the rest rather demurely. Cutouts are a provocative way to show a little bit of skin without being so revealing that it redflags dress code monitors. We’re seeing cutouts in front and back, and sometimes at the midriff. Side cutouts are a great way to expose part of the midriff, yet still look very elegant. Crop top and two piece dresses are the number-one trend. The necklines of these tops are generally high, sometimes with cutaway shoulders, while skirts are long with waistbands high and midriffs in between left bare. If showing your belly isn’t your thing, no worries. The backless trend is big as well and it’s flattering for many body types. In a backless dress, the front of the dress is generally high-necked and less revealing. This allows you to show a little skin, but not go overboard. By the same token, we’re also seeing a lot of illusion skirts, with a sheer overlay. If showing some leg is your goal, high slits are definitely in. And, of course, you can always stand out from the crowd by wearing a short dress while everyone around you is going long. When we’re talking color, nude fabrics will be very big this year, perhaps inspired by Pantone’s color of the year. We predict blush will be very hot for Prom 2016. Of course, the key in all of this is to find a dress that’s comfortable and functional — but mostly one that makes you feel pretty.
