As a champion of body diversity in fashion, we always love to hear Ashley Graham‘s perspective on how the fashion industry is doing. And in a new interview with Yahoo, Graham shed light on one important thing missing from the New York Fashion Week runways this year: the curves.
Graham said that while she felt the runway shows for Spring 2018 featured an array of skin tones, she felt there was a lack of diversity in body types. “It’s sad,” she said. “It’s funny to me, because I’ll look at runways and think, ‘I’d look so great in those clothes’ or ‘I know curvy women who would look so great in those clothes.’”
The 29-year-old even called out a few designers who she was particularly disappointed with. “I was at Fenty last night, and that was an amazing show. But how dope would it have been to see some curves on the runway?” Graham said. “I think Baja East would be really cool to have curves on the runway. Philipp Plein would be really cool.”
That’s not to say NYFW Spring ’18 was totally lacking in body diversity. Graham walked for Michael Kors once again (above) and Prabal Gurung. She also released and modeled her 16th (!) lingerie collection with Addition Elle and hosted Daily Front Row’s Fashion Media Awards 2017.
