This Is the Crazy Treatment Men Who Can’t Grow Beards Are Trying
Man buns aren’t going anywhere, but according to The New York Times, there’s a new male hair trend on the horizon: beard transplants. The article explains that baby-faced dudes are dishing out big bucks to have hair from their heads transplanted onto their faces like a Wooly Willy toy.
The surgery can cost anywhere between $10,000 and $70,000, and apparently there are a few men willing to shell out that dough. According to a survey from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, these beard transplants account for 3.7% of hair restoration surgeries worldwide.
If you’ve ever watched late-night infomercials, you know that hair plugs have always been a thing — even if they haven’t always been perfect. Old-school hair transplant tech would never have worked on the face and would leave patients with a “cobblestone complexion,” which is a far cry from the whole sexy-masculine-stubble look. Thankfully, modern hair tech can now easily graft head hair onto chins and sideburns, transforming cue ball-faced dudes into your everyday lumbersexual.
