The $30 Amazon Sheet Set That Made Me Stop Buying $200 Sheets
I am the person who bought $250 long-staple cotton sheets because a wellness influencer told me she could feel the difference and “sleep is foundational.” Reader, the sheets were fine. They were also $250. Then a friend mentioned she’d been sleeping on a $30 Amazon sheet set for two years and had bought it in every color. I bought one set in white to humor her. I now own them in five colors and I have not shopped for bedding since.
Meet the CGK Linens sheet set
It’s a 4-piece microfiber sheet set — fitted, flat, two pillowcases — at around $30 for a queen. The fabric is a brushed 1500-thread-count microfiber, which is the part that makes the difference. It feels soft in a way that microfiber usually does not. The fitted sheet has elastic all the way around (not just the corners) and pockets deep enough to fit a 16-inch mattress, which finally solved the problem of my fitted sheet ending up in a sad ball at the foot of the bed every morning. Oeko-Tex certified, machine washable, comes in something like forty colors.
Why I’m hooked
The first night I slept in them, I assumed I would be writing a review that said something like “fine for a guest room.” Instead, the next morning I checked the price again because I was sure I’d missed a zero. The hand-feel is genuinely the same as my $250 set. After a couple of months and a stack of wash cycles, they still are. They have not pilled, they have not thinned, they have not turned that gross yellowy color that cheap sheets sometimes do. They have just kept being soft.
I have eight different brands of sheets and these are the softest I own. I just bought four more sets.Verified buyer
The fitted sheet actually stays on
This sounds like nothing but I want you to understand: my fitted sheet does not migrate anymore. The elastic that runs all the way around the perimeter is doing something that the corner-only elastic on my previous sheets was clearly failing to do. The corners hold. I have not had a 3am “the sheet popped off again” rage moment in two months.
Fits my 14-inch mattress perfectly. The elastic is the best I’ve seen — corners don’t pop off.Verified buyer
A few things to know
These sleep a little warmer than cotton — if you run hot in the summer, you’ll probably want a percale or linen set for July and August and these for the other ten months. And microfiber doesn’t last forever; I’d expect them to start showing wear past a year of daily use. But at the price, you can buy a second set for the rotation and still pay less than one nice cotton set.
Bottom line
If you’ve been telling yourself you should invest in nicer bedding, please try the $30 version first. I genuinely cannot tell the difference, and I have stopped pretending that I can.
