Winter is here! And with that comes sweater season. But here’s the thing — it can be pretty challenging to incorporate your go-to sweater into a fresh, on-trend look. Sometimes it feels like the only way to wear a sweater is with skinny jeans and a scarf. That’s where we beg to differ! We’ve teamed up with JCPenney to show four completely different ways to style a tried-and-true cable knit sweater, perfect for any personality on your holiday shopping list.
We picked up our sweater of choice at JCPenney, of course, and went with a classic cable-knit sweater in a fashion-forward bright mustard tone. That’s right. BRIGHT mustard is a thing. It’s a color you need to know about, and we’re going to show you how to wear it for any occasion.
This sweater in particular is St. John’s Bay and dubs itself “Liberty Gold” — but we prefer to think of it as the brightest and boldest mustard hue we’ve seen ;) An essential like this makes for a great holiday present, especially if you pair it with an accessory or two that fits the recipient’s personality. Scroll on to see all the ways we styled it!
For this look, Brit + Co designer Marianne Koo is channeling her inner tomboy but with a bit more sass and color than usual. As you can see, the sweater adds a rich pop of color to this look without taking it into preppy territory. Plus, that bomber jacket is SO on trend it hurts.

Next up, we’ve got Brit + Co HR maven Rachel Flores taking care of business like the boss babe she is! We love the deep fall hues featured in this outfit, complete with a pencil skirt that matches her heels oh-so-perfectly.

Def swooning over that bag that can totally lug a laptop without sacrificing style points.
Oh hey, that’s me! Anjelika Temple, Executive Creative Director at Brit + Co :) What you can only kind of tell in this snap is that I’m rocking a 24-week baby bump underneath all that hunter green chiffon! This boho look is all about unexpected layers and color combos, to create a truly unique look. As someone who grew up wearing plaid kilts and cable-knit sweaters on the daily, I can tell you that I’ve never seen a cable-knit look so bohemian.

The key to rocking a sweater over a formal dress is to tie it up in the back so you still have a defined waist. Then it’s all about accessorizing!
Last up, we’ve got our trendsetter Natasha, the community lead on Brit + Co’s marketing team. This look is for the gal who equates getting dressed with creating a work of art, each and every morning. We’ve got graphic patterns, candy-colored pops *and* boots that were made for walkin’.
