5 Shows to Watch When This (Amazing) Season of Girls Is Over
This Sunday marks the season five double-episode finale of Girls — the season that will forever be remembered as the one that made everybody start watching the show again. (Can we TALK about that Marnie episode?) But, like all good things that come back, it’s gone again much too soon. Don’t worry, Lena Dunham already has plans for a Girls reunion. In the meantime, we’ve come up with five other shows that will make the wait until season six pass a little quicker.
Kind of like Girls, but if the cast had been a group of gay guys. Looking centers around a group of gay friends in San Francisco navigating life and messing up in a hyper-realistic way, reminiscent of the early seasons of Girls. It stars Jonathan Groff, who you may remember back from your Glee days. It’s available to stream now from HBO. (Image via HBO)
IF YOU LIKE FRIENDS TRYING TO MAKE IT BIG, WATCH HOW TO MAKE IT IN AMERICA
Similar to Marnie making it as a musician or Hannah as a writer, this show follows a pair of best friends trying to make it big as denim designers. It serves as a reminder of just how hard it is to hustle in New York and how unlikely everybody is to succeed. Watch it now on HBO Go. (Image via HBO)
IF YOU LIKE FEMALE-CENTERED SHOWS, WATCH CHLOE AND ZOE
If you loved the creative energy of Lena Dunham when Girls first came out, you neeeeed to check out Chloe and Zoe. It was written by and stars two friends who met the summer after college and decided to make a series about friends who are “great at making plans and even better at breaking them.” Sound familiar? The online series is ready to watch from YouTube. (Image via Chloe and Zoe Show)
IF YOU LIKE HBO SHOWS, WATCH ENLIGHTENED
There’s one thing almost guaranteed about any HBO show: It’s gonna be good. Enlightened only ran for two seasons, which, on any other network, would signal warning bells. But remember that Laura Dern won a Golden Globe for her work on the show. Dern played a self-destructive woman who commits herself to living a more enlightened life — a change which wreaks complete havoc. You can watch it whenever on HBO Go. (Image via HBO)
IF YOU LIKE FIGURING OUT LIFE, WATCH THE NEW NORMAL
The unconventional family comedy follows a gay couple that seems to have it all — except a baby. But “the new normal” entails enlisting a Midwestern waitress as their “baby mama” and trying to make it all work. The show stars Andrew Rannells, who you’ll instantly recognize as Elijah from Girls. You can get it from Amazon Video. (Image via NBC)
