Here’s How President Obama *Really* Feels About His Daughters Dating
President Obama and Michelle Obama (who has practically changed the course of American history) are preeeetty amazing parents. Not only did they do everything in their power to ensure that Sasha and Malia could lead normal teenage lives, but now that their daughters are all grown up (Malia will soon be heading to Harvard!), they’re continuing to prove just how awesome they are with their super chill attitude about the day every dad dreads: when his daughters are old enough to date.
Taking a break from sharing his thoughts on Michelle running for the White House, POTUS called in to Raleigh radio station WDCG to encourage EVERYONE to vote on Tuesday and to answer questions about his family life, including how he feels about the fact that his girls have started dating. Let us tell you: His response is not at all what you’d expect, that’s for sure.
“The truth is, I’m pretty relaxed about it for two reasons,” he began. “One is Michelle. She’s such a great example of how she carries herself, her self-esteem, not depending on boys to validate how you look or not letting yourself be judged by anything other than your character and intelligence.” *Swoon*
President Obama went on to give himself a bit of credit too — “Hopefully I’ve been a good example in terms of how I show respect to my wife” — before adding that, above all, he trusts his daughters. “I don’t worry about it because they’re really solid, smart girls,” he concluded.
And, if all else fails, as he points out, there’s always good old Secret Service!
You can listen to the full interview above or fast forward to the five-minute mark for the dating question.
