Jennifer Lopez’s Manicurist Clues Us in to the Nail Trend That’s *So* Dead for 2018

In the era of Instagram, a new mani becomes an opportunity to make a social media statement, particularly when it’s on trend (those sweater nails, though!). But Jennifer Lopez’s nail guru says there’s one major nail trend you can nix from your feeds, since it’s definitely on the way out in 2018.
Manicurist to the stars Tom Bachik, whose client list includes Lopez, Heidi Klum, and Selena Gomez, says that almond nails (AKA J.Lo’s signature nail style!) is *so* over. In an interview with Us Weekly, the singer’s go-to nail artist reveals that our fingertips (and our Insta feeds) are about to go back to basics, with his A-list ladies ditching their long, claw nails in favor of a more toned-down shape.

“This year is going to be a little more minimalistic… “he explains. “Heidi’s gone shorter with her nails and even J.Lo’s taken away her almond to a much shorter, softer nail. Everything’s just really classic,” he explains.
The same goes for color, with the nail guru adding that “really clean looking nails” are in, particularly in nudes, reds, and dark hues.
In addition to giving off a timeless look, the shorter styles are also more efficient, making texting and emailing a breeze… though it doesn’t always work to Bachik’s advantage. “It’s more of a hassle for me now that they have short nails because I’m like, ‘Give me your hand!’ and they’re like, ‘Hold on, hold on!”
If you’re into bold, eye-catching nail art, however, never fear: Bachik says it’s still on the map, just in a different way. “Sometimes I get asked, ‘Is nail art dead?’ because we don’t see it as much, but it’s not dead, it’s just becoming more simple.”
Go ahead and pour one out for the talon nails of yore: Coffin nails, we hardly knew ye!
