Jaden Smith Made a Music Video Tribute to Batman and It’s As Weird As You’d Expect
Jaden Smith is nothing if not surprising. You’d think by now we’d be used to the actor’s eccentricities (like bringing a bundle of his hair to the Met Gala as his date in place of his sister), but somehow the star of The Get Down continues to outdo himself. Last night, the teen dropped a video called “Batman” on YouTube. Some are calling it a tribute to the late Adam West, who memorably played the caped crusader in the 1960s. Whatever its purpose, this video is definitely one of the weirdest things you’ll see today.
In the video, as Smith awakens in a field and sees a bat symbol hovering over LA, he springs into action. Playing both Bruce Wayne and the Batman, he takes a call from a reporter, and then runs through Hollywood to the soundtrack of a remixed “Jumpman” by Drake (it’s essentially almost the same song with the word Jumpman replaced by the word Batman).
Smith’s Batman costume in the vid is his now-iconic all-white batsuit. If it doesn’t look familiar to you, it should — Smith has sported this all-white Batman costume at both his prom and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding.
While this isn’t Smith’s first foray into music, it might be signaling a shift from acting. Having released music in the past, Smith announced earlier this spring that he was planning to release a K-Pop record later this year.
