Jessie J and Jenna Dewan Have Some Thoughts About Those Look-Alike Comments
Jessie J and Jenna Dewan (who recently announced she’s leaving World of Dance after two seasons) are officially tired of the comparisons being made between them, and they’re looking to put a stop to the negative chatter. As you’ve likely heard, following Dewan and Channing Tatum’s split back in April, the actor began dating songstress Jessie J in October, which sparked countless lookalike comments. Now, the ladies are firing back.
The “Bang Bang” singer kicked things off on Instagram, declaring, “I rarely, but sometimes see that my name is involved in stories online that I do not agree to. I often ignore them… however, there is a story I have seen be re-written over and over again in the past few weeks that talks about myself being compared directly to another beautiful woman regarding our looks and people picking who they think is prettier.”
She continued, “The way the story has been written, I have continuously tried to find something positive from this article… I am yet to. Who feels good from this story? I know I don’t. Is picking who is prettier and then continuing to say why a good activity for women to participate in? No.”
Pointing out that the issue goes far beyond her own experience, Jessie added, “It’s constant with women. Picking favorites. Do the media do it with men? No. Are women gaining a positive lesson from it? No.” She then revealed that she feels “so disappointed and embarrassed that my name is even involved. It’s not something I stand for, at all.”
Calling on the media to change their approach to storytelling and consider the impact these types of headlines have on young girls, the 30-year-old concluded, “I am a woman that loves ALL women and will not stand quietly when the media is teaching young girls to constantly compare one another. Or pick who they think is prettier… We are all BEAUTIFUL. We are enough just the way we are. Be the best you!!! Be good to yourself. And to those around you… Be kind with your words. You have no idea what they can do to someone. Alone ladies, we are strong. But TOGETHER?! US WOMEN can truly CHANGE THE WORLD.”
Dewan was all for it, and took to Instagram Stories to show her support. “Amen Jessie! Yes!!!!! Women for women all the way. No need for negativity. Let’s live in a world where we support each other and raise each other up. Like i said before, positive vibes all the way. Nothing but respect [heart emoji].”
