This Lipstick Company Is Giving All Its Profits to Charlottesville Victims
It’s been a difficult week following the horrific events in Charlottesville. In the aftermath, we’ve seen a slew of celebs voicing their outrage, among others showing support and solidarity. One beauty company is hoping to make a difference.
Lipslut, created by college student Katie Sones to aid women’s organizations in response to Trump’s presidency, announced that for the rest of August, every last bit of money from its lipstick sales will go toward helping Charlottesville victims.
Sones told Refinery29, “It has always bothered me, especially in a time when our political system is so dysfunctional, that companies rarely speak out [against] social issues, despite holding large influence in our society. I don’t believe the fear of losing customers makes for an apt excuse to ignore human rights.”
All you have to do to contribute is buy its matte liquid lipstick — specifically the brand’s F*ck Trump ($20) hue, which they describe as a “balanced, mid-tone nude pink.” When you’re checking out, select Charlottesville in the “Cast Your Charity Vote” section of checkout, and your money will go to supporting the victims’ medical funds, as well as organizations such as the Albemarle-Charlottesville NAACP and Black Lives Matter Charlottesville.
Charity has always been part of Lipslut’s brand — they regularly donate 50 percent of their proceeds of their lone product. Ordinarily, the brand allows you choose from nine different 501(c)(3) orgs to contribute to, including ACLU, The Center for Reproductive Rights, Human Rights Campaign, She Should Run, and Planned Parenthood to name a few. During this time, you can still choose to donate 50 percent to any of these aforementioned charities.
