4 Never-Fail Makeup Combos to Rock in Every Kind of Weather
Just like you make an effort to dress for specific weather conditions, your makeup routine should also reflect whatever Mother Nature has in store for the day. Sticky gloss on a windy day? No thanks. Heavy foundation at the beach? Yeah, right. Whether you’re headed to a sun-soaked summer vacay or still trudging through the last of those rainy spring days, here are some killer makeup combos to rock when facing four different weather conditions.
Don’t feel you have to dim your look down just because its grim and cloudy outside. In fact, why don’t you make up for the lack of sun with a look that radiates warmth? Gives those cheeks the perfect rosy hue with cult favorite blush NARS Orgasm ($30). Accompany that with this super cool dual lipstick from Bite Beauty ($12), which offers either an orangey-red or berry color (or combine the two together for a totally custom shade). Complete the look with this subtle gold eye palette from Stila ($20) that comes complete with three different colors to use as a base, crease and liner. And finally, you can’t be rocking the perfect makeup and have a hairstyle that’s a total rain-induced mess. Spritz this Moroccanoil Spray ($34) on those tresses to help fight frizz and control static.
When you’re hanging by the beach, the last thing you want is to be sweating off a face full of makeup. On the other hand, you also don’t want to be looking like you just rolled out of bed. The key here is to keep things light. Don’t bother busting out your heavy foundation. Instead, try this Perfecting Skin Tint from Glossier ($26) that our style editor Kate swears by. For a lip color that won’t wash off after an ice cold beer or dip in the pool, try this magical, coloring changing lipstick ($3) that’s made with henna and stains your lips the perfect shade of pink (see fashion blogger Leandra Medine’s experiment with the stuff here). Because these two products are so subtle, amp up that playful summer vibe in this long lasting, lilac-colored eyeliner by Smashbox ($24). Then top it all off with some of the best waves the beach has ever seen by spritzing on this John Frieda’s Sea Salt Spray ($9).
When it comes to windy weather, there are a few things to consider: keep away from anything sticky (hair + lip gloss = a very frustrating walk to work) and make sure that eye makeup isn’t going to run (a gust of wind straight to your eyes is definitely going to make them water). Replace the lip gloss with this Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Elusive ($7), which is long lasting and full of color but not super sticky. Unlike some lip stains, this balm won’t leave your lips feeling as dry as the Sahara Desert — in fact, it actually has a moisturizing effect. Next, make sure that eye makeup doesn’t end up looking like T. Swift in her “Blank Space” video by using Benefit’s BADgal Waterproof Mascara ($19) and Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20), both of which will actually stay put all day. Then, to really make sure the wind doesn’t blow that perfectly applied makeup right off your face, finish with this NYX Cosmetics Setting Spray ($7).
Whether you’re headed to the other end of the globe (where it’s currently winter) or it gets chilly in the evenings where you live (hi, SF), pair the cold conditions with this vixen-like combo. Incorporate that frosty vibe into your eye makeup by using Stila’s Smudge Crayon Waterproof Eye Color in Kitten ($15). Then contrast that (while also keeping those lips hydrated) with Burt’s Bees’ Lip Shimmer in Plum ($5). To keep from looking too much like the White Witch in The Chronicles of Narnia, warm things up with Benefit’s Dallas ($28), which is sort of a magical combination between blush and bronzer. And finally, top off the look with Kendra’s Shine Spray ($17), which will keep your hair from looking super dull while also controlling frizz in humid conditions.
