This Style Expert Shares 4 Genius Hacks to Make Your Jewelry Stand Out
Jewelry is a big part of an outfit, but it’s an even bigger part of a holiday-appropriate ‘fit — glitz is a given this time of year. But throwing on your go-to statement necklace or biggest, blingiest cocktail rings doesn’t feel particularly special anymore — it’s what you do to spice up your work button-up or your plain LBD. So when it comes to creating an especially festive look with your holiday + New Year’s Eve accessories, you’re gonna need to really shake things up. To help with that next-level inspo, we chatted with Blythe Harris, Co-Creator + Chief Creative Officer of boutique jewelry brand Stella & Dot, about how you can get creative with your baubles. Read on for the four jewelry hacks you should live by to stand out at your next holiday shindig.
Wearing your jewelry as different types of accessories is an easy way to amp up your seasonal style without having to spend money buying new pieces. Think: rings as braid bling or a long necklace wrapped around your wrist. For the latter, slinky lariat necklaces are a great option. “I’ve seen the Zoe Lariat worn as a bracelet, a headband and a belt!” Blythe said. Talk about getting the most bang for your buck.
Hack 2: Have Fun With Length
If you’re used to rocking your fave necklace as a longer-hanging piece, consider shortening the length for a whole new look. If the piece you’re wearing wasn’t intended to be worn at different lengths, you can often hack it by closing the clasp on different parts of the necklace using a small safety pin or even a loose loop, or simply hunt down a convertible piece. “I love a necklace that is able to convert to different lengths and consider them investment pieces, like our Utopia Necklace [that has removable strands],” Blythe said. “I wear it as both a multicolored statement necklace when my outfit needs a pop of color with a bit of sparkle but also rock it toned down as a mixed metal necklace that can be worn short or long.”
Hack 3: Layer on Unexpected Combos
Layering jewelry can totally transition your look from day to night, desk to dinner or happy hour to holiday party in a snap. “Almost any piece of jewelry can be taken to the next level for the holidays by layering on a bit of sparkle,” Blythe said. “Add some dimension to your look with contrasting textures and metallics.” Now’s time time for your tassels, pearls, rhinestones and pendants to become pretty PICs.
Hack 4: Consider a Pearl-Meets-Punk Accessory
“Nothing says it’s the holidays like pearls,” Blythe said. “You can easily transition a pearl necklace from a ladylike look to more of an edgy, modern vibe by combining them with chains or spikes.” A classy-meets-cutting-edge accessory like this would be ideal if you have back-to-back holiday parties that require totally different looks, like if you’re jetting from your boyfriend’s formal office holiday party to your bestie’s festive seasonal soiree.
