If you’re among the estimated 70 percent of American women who color their hair, you’re *probably* familiar with the dry, lackluster locks that often replace your post-color sheen after just a few weeks. Not only does hair dye itself sap your strands of its natural luster, but winter’s abrasively cold weather plus drying indoor heat equals out to some SERIOUSLY parched locks. Lucky for you, Olivia Munn’s colorist is here with the solution to all your color woes — hair masks on hair masks on hair masks!
Cassondra Kaeding, who works with stars such as Olivia Munn and Rosie Huntington Whitley, advises snagging Dove Color Care Conditioner ($5), chock full of hydrating coconut oil, and using it as a hair mask when your color needs a softening refresh.
“It has dual purposes,” Kaeding says. Simply leave the conditioner in for longer than you usually would (she recommends five to 15 minutes to avoid adding too much protein to your hair, thus creating lifeless locks) and voila! Instant refresh. You can also use it as a regular conditioner to keep color vibrant for up to 40 washes.
