Between the shuttering of its fine jewelry line and being dropped by several major retailers, the Ivanka Trump clothing line has had a dramatic couple of months. And now, an ethical clothing company based in Chicago and LA wants to repurpose all the Ivanka Trump clothing that is getting discarded by donating the proceeds to a good cause.
When Abigail Glaum-Lathbury and Maura Brewer started Rational Dress Society last summer, their goal was to create a smart response to how wasteful fast-fashion and consumer culture is for our environment by selling jumpsuits. They hoped to make enough money to take out an ad in Vogue and then move on. But it didn’t end there.
They’ve decided to build on their jumpsuit movement with Make America Rational Again. “For the next several months, we will be soliciting your gently-used, and emphatically-discarded Ivanka Trump brand garments, to be recycled into new, 100 percent Made in the USA, Special Edition JUMPSUITS!,” the Rational Dress Society writes on its website.
Here’s how it works. The Rational Dress Society is asking people to donate Ivanka Trump-branded garments or old pieces to the cause. The items will be recycled into millennial pink jumpsuits that will be sold at an auction, with all the proceeds going to fair labor organizations that work on promoting ethical practices in the US.
