On Thursday, while celebs like Alyssa Milano and Nina Dobrev were showing off fresh-fraced selfies for #NationalSelfieDay, Sarah Hyland was taking to Instagram stories with a self-taken photo of another kind.
Uploading a shot that showed her in a hospital gown with a swollen face, the Modern Family star revealed that her health had taken a turn for the worse, forcing her to leave work.
“Sometimes a selfie is more than just a good angle and feelin’ cute,” she wrote. “This time for #NationalSelfieDay I’ve decided to share my truth. As painful as it is. So here is my face that was torn from work against my will. Health should always come first.”
She closed out the post with a PSA to her followers, adding, “#stayhealthymyfriends
Hyland also uploaded a video of herself receiving plenty of sweet smooches from her puppy. “Can’t wait to come back to my angel princess,” she wrote. “She’s perfect and knows exactly what I need at all times. This was taken this past Sunday. Day before hospitalization. She was literally telling me to get treatment.”
The RL Haley Dunphy had been recently spotted on set in LA while filming for a role in an upcoming movie called The Wedding Year.
Though she didn’t go into specifics about what caused her hospitalization, the actress has been open about her lifelong struggle with kidney dysplasia for which she received a 2012 kidney transplant.
Health issues also forced the 27-year-old to skip last year’s SAG Awards and to address body shamers who criticized her for rapid weight loss. “I have been told I can’t work out… I’ve basically been on bed rest for the past few months, I’ve lost a lot of muscle mass. My circumstances have put me in a place where I’m not in control of what my body looks like,” she shared back in May of last year.
More recently, she asked for recommendations for thinning hair caused by prednisone and Prograf and Myfortic from followers on her Instagam stories. “Help, help, help. What hair care products are out there for thinning hair, this 27-year-old would like to know. I know it seems like I don’t but I do,” she said.
Here’s to wishing Hyland a speedy recovery.
