Showerwine Is the Instagram Account We Can All Relate To
There’s nothing we love more in this world than combining two of our favorite things into a single joy-filled experience. We’re talking sushi tacos, cookie-dough lip balm, and floral DIY’d everything. If it doubles our pleasure and allows us some level of multi-tasking, we are so here for it. Which is why we were pumped AF to discover showerwine — an Instagram account devoted solely to drinking in the shower. Rachel Albright’s feed is full of sexy, minimalist showers and bathtubs, Aesop bath gel, designer candles, and an array of wine glasses. It’s a deceptively simple concept that feels (and looks) like the height of luxury, even if you’re on your way to dashing out the door. We caught up with the artist-creative director-entrepreneur behind the ‘Gram to get the (squeaky clean) dirt on her favorite self-care pastime.
B+C: What inspired you to start the showerwine Instagram account? Which is totally genius, BTW! We’re hooked.
RA: From my real life! Life is busy; I multitask — that means taking coffee (a.m.), wine (p.m.), and sometimes other beverages in the shower with me. I posted a few times on my personal Instagram, and my friends thought it was funny. A coworker even gave me an in-shower wine holder — complete with suction cup — for my birthday. I started the showerwine account for fun, and I like to see other people indulging in it too!

B+C: How long have you been showerwine-ing?
RA: I’m not sure — for a long time! It never really occurred to me that it was out of the ordinary until people got such a kick out of it.
B+C: We’ve become sort of evangelical about showerwine since we discovered your account. Whether we’re luxuriating in the bath for hours or getting ready to go out on a Saturday night, we can’t get enough of the simple pleasure of wine in the shower. Why do you think it feels so great? What would you say to someone who’s response is, “But why?”
RA: A lot of people tend to think it’s about luxury or assume I’m always taking a really fancy bubble bath. I’m not one of those people who spends a lot of time in a bath. I move too fast for “baths” — I’m actually standing in the shower drinking wine, knocking out two birds with one stone. If I’m in my apartment at night drinking a glass of wine, why wouldn’t I bring it in the shower with me? Anyone who works hard can understand the simple joy of a drink and a hot shower. Just combine them: It makes both more fun!

B+C: We’re curious to ask the expert — what’s your favorite shower/wine combination?
RA: I’m a rosé drinker, so that’s usually my #showerwine of choice. And definitely a shower over a bathtub — it’s about efficiency! But it’s a lifestyle — really, anything goes! If I’m showering in the morning, I bring my coffee in with me; that totally counts! A particularly bad day? Drink a gin & tonic in the shower, who cares?!
B+C: Any tips on the optimal showerwine experience for the newbies out there?
RA: Find a ledge or corner that is sturdy enough, not too thin and slippery, and obviously out of the way enough to not get shower water in it, but still easily reachable. Don’t kill your vibes with a spilled or soapy drink! Other than that, do whatever you want — shower wine should make your life better, there are no rules!
