Style Resolutions: How to Style Your Blazer Like a #Girlboss

The blazer is currently having a major fashion moment. The traditional formal attire, usually the tell-tale sign of a #GIRLBOSS in action, is now making its mark as a red carpet statement piece on stars like Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway and Emma Stone, all of whom have landed on best-dressed lists for the unexpected ways they’ve worn the jacket. Now that we’ve seen the sartorial possibilities (week after week, it seems), we’re so over wearing it as a nine-to-five staple. We’ve made a style resolution to get the most out of our wardrobes in 2015, so here we’re showing you three ways to style a fitted blazer ($25) like a celeb. Scroll through to see how we’d wear the buttoned suit coat to the office, on a night out and on a lazy weekend.

Take the pantsuit idea to a high-fashion place by pairing your fitted blazer with extremely flowy pieces like a pleated blouse and wide-flared trousers — with the single button cinched, it will create a dramatic daytime silhouette. Kick out a pop of color from underneath your pants with pointed-toe flats and round out your look with preppy-chic pieces like a leather backpack, a color blocked rope bracelet and golden drop earrings. That’s how you make your work uniform anything but boring.

H&M Fitted Blazer ($25) + Cos Raw-Edge Pleated Top ($99), French Connection Emmeline Crepe Flared Trousers ($110), Krysos + Chandi Nima Bracelet ($28), Salty Fox Rising Sign Earrings ($110), ASOS Lake Two Part Ballerinas ($42), Need Supply Rockland Backpack ($89)

Have your very own red carpet-worthy moment by turning your blazer *into* your outfit’s statement piece. How’s that? Skip the shirt. Seriously, with your single-button blazer securely fastened and ample amounts of fashion tape on hand, a top is totally optional (if you do want to cover up, choose silky cami that matches your blazer to keep the after-hours look polished). Matching paper bag-waist trousers and a lariat necklace will make the revealing look extremely elegant — a totally fun take on the traditional “suit and tie” get up. Finish off your menswear-inspired look with flirty shoes (look closely, these pumps are topped with a bow!) and playful metallics like this silver-spotted clutch and gleaming gem bracelet.

H&M Fitted Blazer ($25) + Equipment Cara Cami ($98), Free People Double Bar Lariat ($98), Topshop Wrap Front Utility Trousers ($60), Bauble Bar Round Cut Gem Stretch Bracelet ($32), Claire V Flat Clutch ($198), ASOS Harmony Heeled Sandals ($86)

When you’re not on the clock, think of your blazer as a cheeky way to dress up an extremely casual outfit — we’re talking a plain white tee and overalls. The structured jacket is a total curveball here, we know, but it’s that kind of unexpected element that turns your weekend outfit into street style photographer bait. Keep the posh-but-not-too-polished vibe going with your remaining accessories: fashion sneakers and a wool tote will keep the outfit functional, while a charm necklace and a patterned head scarf will add just the right amount of whimsey to your statement-making look.

H&M Fitted Blazer ($25) + Pixie Market Lazy Sunday Denim Overalls ($55), UNIQLO Supima Cotton V Neck Short Sleeved Shirt ($13), Julie Nolan Jewelry Constellation Charm Necklace ($50), Bando Black + White Twist Scarf ($20), Kelsi Dagger Brooklyn Woven Commuter Tote Bag ($168), New Balance 547 ‘90s Outdoor Collection Sneaker ($75)
