This Kid-Friendly Tent Could Save Your Family Camping Trip
S’mores materials? Check. Grill gadgets? Check. Wood-paneled station wagon? Check. Just when we thought we’d covered all the camping essentials, Mike Cecot-Scherer of TheTentLab invented something else we may want/need. He’s currently raising money on Kickstarter to debut The RugRat, which could be the coolest family-friendly tent we’ve seen.
While backpacking with his one-year-old baby (f’real), Cecot-Scherer realized he needed a new kind of tent that included more space without adding weight. His experiments led him to design The RugRat, which offers two doors for easy access (and quick bathroom getaways for the kids), extra windows and a screened roof for mapping constellations and keeping the temperature comfortable. It’s a one-of-a-kind product that’ll hold up like a high-performance alpine tent, but is customized for family use and maintains a weight of just over seven pounds. Basically, this tent is going the extra mile to keep outdoorsy families from falling apart over a trip to Yellowstone.
A $600 pledge on Kickstarter secures a first-run three-person model, while $665 will get you the four-person tent. The Kickstarter campaign ends on September 15, so if you want a tent of your own, you should consider pledge with a quickness.
