This Is the ONE Product Beauty Vlogger BubzBeauty Won’t Leave Home Without
Raise your hand if one of your secret pleasures involves shutting yourself into your bedroom, opening YouTube and catching up on your favorite vloggers for an hour or two (or tons)? From organic beauty vloggers to celebrity YouTubers and everything in between, YouTube’s array of quick-hit original content is JUST what the doctor ordered when you need a shot of entertainment or creative inspo.
One look at any of her charming vids should give you a clue. Bubz’s enthusiastic approach to beauty, creativity and just plain *living* is straight-up infectious. Add that adorable Northern Irish accent and you’ve got yourself a way-relaxing (and informative!) YouTube binge.
We recently got a chance to speak with Bubz on the heels of filming a super-fast zipline ride for Listerine’s “Bring Out the Bold” campaign and can confirm: She’s just as charming IRL. She’s also SUPER wise, as anyone who’s spent enough time on her YouTube channels already knows. Here’s what we learned from our chat with Bubz about beauty essentials, self-esteem, motherhood, her fave KDrama and why she’s obsessed with the 1950s.
B+C: What’s something you always keep in your purse?
BubzBeauty: I always carry tinted lip balm on the go. Every single purse of mine has one. Lip color makes all the difference to a tired face. With a nice bold lip color, you won’t even notice my dark circles.
When you wake up and have five minutes to get ready, what’s the one thing you make sure to do?
I make sure I conceal my imperfections with concealer. Concealer is your best friend! My dark circles are next level.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone who wants to follow a similar career path, vlog style?
You need to be passionate about what you do. If you’re doing this with a mindset to be famous and rich, you will get easily discouraged along the way. Make videos as if nobody is watching. Take this opportunity to learn. Learning is the best asset you can gain from this path.
What’s one way you boost your self-esteem?
You need to focus on gratitude. A negative mind cannot bring a positive life. I’m grateful for my “smile lines” because it means I smile a lot. I’m grateful for my stretch marks because it reminds me how blessed I am for my son. I’m grateful for my muffin top because it tells me I go to bed with a full belly each night. It’s not how you look. It’s how you feel.
What’s one career move you haven’t made yet that you want to try?
I’m currently writing a book, but I would love to write children’s books one day. I used to draw my own comics as a child and this is something that has stuck with me since.
What’s the last book you read?
“Year of Yes” by Shonda Rhimes. I love her.
What are you binge watching ATM?
Descendants of the Sun. I’m absolutely obsessed with this KDrama.
What’s been the most surprising thing motherhood has taught you?
It’s taught me to appreciate time so much more. You don’t get as much sleep and free time, so when you do get it, you cherish it so much. It’s made me so much more proactive too.
What’s your most unexpected trait?
I get passionate about things real easy but then I also lose interest fast. This is something I’ve been working on for years.
Do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert?
I definitely think I’m more of an introvert, despite what most people think. I’m quite a homebody and I love to read. Going on the world’s fastest zipline is not something I would decide to do voluntarily, but I’m grateful to Listerine for the opportunity. I’m also the type who lives by the saying “be willing to learn and try.” I crave learning and experiences.
If you could live in any time in history, when would it be and why?
I adore the ’50s. It was such an elegant time. I love the hair and fashion. I love the music. Everything just seems magical.
