Set Your DVRs: This Is Us’ Super Bowl Episode Will Be Longer Than a Normal Ep
If you’re like us, you’re emotionally preparing for This Is Us‘ upcoming post-Super Bowl episode, which promises to be the most memorable of the show to date — and also its longest.
Fans have long theorized that a house fire was to blame for Jack Pearson’s death, and now it looks like the show is finally about to confirm those theories. In order to make sure you have even more time to cry, the February 4 episode will run about three minutes longer than usual, according to EW. Three minutes may not sound like a lot, but in a show where everything can change in a split second, it’s plenty of time to pack in more emotional punches.
Last week was the long-awaited reveal of how the Pearson family’s house fire started. After watching the Super Bowl with Rebecca, Jack turned off the Crock-Pot, only to have its faulty switch spark and send the kitchen up in flames.
It also sent the internet into a total meltdown. People felt betrayed by their beloved kitchen devices, and the reaction was so strong that the official Crock-Pot brand had to issue a statement reassuring people of the safety of their appliances.
While the Crock-Pot story line might not actually be real, Mandy Moore said that the fire it was shown to have caused was.
“The episode that is airing after the Super Bowl is insane,” she recently told Cosmopolitan. “We had to shoot for three nights in the middle of nowhere. They rebuilt the house in order to be able to burn it, and it was intense to say the least. I’d never done anything like that before.” Intense? Sounds about right for this show.
This Is Us will air on NBC on Sunday, February 4, following Super Bowl LII.
