Dancing With the Stars’ Vanessa Lachey and Maksim Chmerkovskiy haven’t had the easiest season so far. Though they’re consistently one of the top-scoring couples in the competition, rumors that a feud was behind Chmerkovskiy’s absence one week continue to follow the pair. Chmerkovskiy and other cast members have previously tried to dispel any reports of tension, and now the two dancers at the center of the drama are tackling the rumors head on.

“It’s a pebble in the pond,” Lachey told Us Weekly at the 7th Annual Baby Ball Gala in celebration of World Adoption Day in LA on Saturday, October 21. “Everything is great. And honestly I kind of giggle at it!” Lachey had previously discussed her on-set dynamic with the dance pro, but she had not previously addressed the conflict rumors.

Chmerkovskiy opened up in a similar way to Us Weekly while attending the Maxim Halloween party in LA on Saturday. “What drama?” he replied when asked about the situation. “[Things] were never bad. They were great things. It’s been a great season.”

He also stressed that the show, which is competitive and physically demanding by nature, is hard on everyone. “It’s a tough show. Everybody’s going through a little bit of a menial lifetime through this whole process, and when you’re good enough to make it all the way, you go through that much more stuff.”

“We’re a great couple,” he concluded. “We’re doing our best. She’s giving me all the time that she should and I can’t wait for this Monday to show what we’ve been working on.”

Chmerkovskiy went so far as to say in an Instagram sneak peek of this week’s “A Night at the Movies” episode that Lachey will be at her “absolute best of the season!!!” Whether reports of their conflicting personalities were true or false, it seems that any tension is water under the bridge now.
