Why Kendall Jenner’s Free the Nipple Is Kind of a Problem
Earlier this summer, Kendall Jenner announced that she was ready to “free the nipple” and just let it all hang out, so to speak. After receiving many accolades for her body-positive message, she’s continued to be loose and free into September with her most recent trend report on her app. While we totally get why Kendall is so passionate about her freedom, we also are seeing a major problem with it: It’s not inclusive to all different shapes and sizes, so it’s not truly body positive, is it?
In a post called “Bare, Bralettes or Bust!” Kendall shows us all her favorite looks that are helping her free the nipple. While she looks great, and the outfits are totally on point, not everyone can chose to rock a bare or braless outfit — some of us are a bit more busty and we don’t always want to have it all hang out.
Now, this isn’t to say that smaller girls should be shamed for wearing these looks, or even that bigger busted girls can’t rock these looks if they want to, but it’s definitely more hard for those of us with a big bust line to find looks like this that fit us properly. So, while Kendall’s totally right in letting it all hang out, we need to take a step back before we cheer her as THE body positive champion, because this part of the “movement” isn’t necessarily right for everyone.
