Inside Our Home Editor's Adorable Mid-Century Modern Nursery
Decorating your first nursery is a no small feat. You’re constantly second-guessing what you actually need (glider? recliner? combo!?) and trying to gather intel on what pieces will make your bb’s room ready for late nights, early mornings, and all that tummy time. When designing our baby Isla’s nursery, I wanted to create a bright and beachy space that was mostly gender neutral with some mid-century modern and boho vibes mixed in. With the help of natural textures, ocean-inspired decor, and just the right amount of teal and gold accents, Isla’s room soon became my favorite in the house. Check out all the sweet details and must-haves below!
My favorite piece of the room is definitely the glider from AllModern. Its mint hue matches the color pops in the jute rug, and the retro-inspired lines pair perfectly with mid-century dresser and modern crib.
To bring some art and beachy style into the nursery, we created a gallery wall above the mid-century mod crib. And believe it or not, most of the pieces came from the clearance section of Target — hello, $2 framed prints and wall hangings! The wall really helps tie the room together and brings the surfer chick vibes I was hoping for.
The changing table area was made so much sweeter with this rattan mirror from World Market. To add a more playful and personal look to the zone, I picked up a parrot sketch from local artist Daniel Garzi and a three-toned teal surfboard shaped by a good friend of ours.
And since no nursery is complete without a boatload of books, I stocked the IKEA KALLAX shelf with baby reads, stuffed animals, woven baskets for storage, and lots of plants to brighten it up.
It's safe to say that our tiny addition is pretty cozy (and cute!) in her new room. She'll be embracing that beach-lovin' attitude before we know it.
