Top Chef’s Fatima Ali Posts a Heartbreaking Update on Her Cancer Battle
Three months after revealing her terminal cancer diagnosis, Top Chef alum Fatima Ali has taken to Instagram for her first post of the new year to give a heartbreaking update on her condition.
“I know it’s been ages since I posted and most may have figured out why,” Ali wrote on Instagram alongside a recent photo. “I’m sick and unfortunately I’m getting sicker. Right now all I need are prayers; prayers that are simple.”
Ali also sent a message of peace and reconciliation to people in her life. “I hope, because a wish is putting on too much responsibility on the other, that you will somehow find forgiveness in your big heart for whenever I must have hurt you,” she wrote. “I thank you a million times over for when you have given me joy. I’ll try to keep everyone updated the best that I possibly can.”

Ali revealed in October 2018 that a previous Ewing’s sarcoma cancer diagnosis had returned and that doctors had given her just a year to live. In a November appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Top Chef fan-favorite opened up about the “incredibly jarring” diagnosis, and revealed the inspiring way she planned to spend the rest of her days — traveling the world and eating at all the restaurants she has always wanted to visit.
DeGeneres, who was moved to tears by Ali’s outlook, surprised her with a check for $50,000 dollars to help with medical and travel expenses.
“I am so looking forward to this next year, because I am surrounded with so much positivity,” Ali said at the time. “I’m so lucky to have friends and family like I do. We are going to be taking an entire tour of the world, eating all this absolutely delicious food. I know that’s the only way to get through this.”
