12 of the Kookiest Cakes Around

Item 1/1

[slideshow] We love cake. Whether it's in the form of a sandwich, a tie dyed cake pop, or a cookie cutter pancake, we love our sweet fix. So this week, we bring you some of the most colorful, complicated, delicious-looking cakes from all over the web.

1. Blue Ombre Petal Cake: Ommmm…bre. This cake is all about preparation. It's pretty quick to make, so long as you've got your frosting tips and piping bags all set when you begin.  (Recipe and photo: The Hungry Housewife

2. Chocolate Cupcake Pops: We couldn't possibly do a roundup of super fun cakes without including something delicious by Bakerella! These cupcake pops are insanely adorable and wouldn't make it more than 5 minutes at Brit HQ. (Recipe and photo: Bakerella

3. Double Rainbow Cake Jelly Shot: A reference to the infamous Double Rainbow is always welcome 'round these parts. (Recipe and photo: Jelly Shot Test Kitchen

4. Red Velvet Nikon: Not one we recommend trying at home, this incredibly detailed Nikon cake was created by the talented professionals at Granny Schmidt's in Pennsylvania. (Photo: Fsumaria)

5. Peanut Butter Chocolate Invaders: Nerd alert! Ok these aren't exactly cakes but when we stumbled onto them we just had to share. We love the idea of using silicone ice cube trays for adorable cake shapes. (Recipe and photo: Sugar For the Brain

6. Mocha Kuih Lapis: This cake's got more layers than the master photoshop files for our website! Too computer geeky? Fine. But these layers are amazing! Each one is grilled for 3 minutes and layered. (Recipe and photo: Kokken 69

7. Key Lime Ombre Cake: Our second cake ode to ombre, a slice of these sweetness would complement our DIY Sponge Manicure perfectly. (Recipe and photo: Alaska From Scratch)

8. Tie Dyed Cake: Get in touch with your hippie roots (that's right) with a super colorful and super fun to make Tie Dye Cake! See also: Tie Dye Cake Pops. (Recipe and photo: Five Kids Is A Lot of Kids)

9. Popcorn Cake: Let's see. Take two things that are delicious and combine them? Sounds perfect to us. In fact, we might have to try a Red Hot Popcorn Cake in the near future. (Recipe and photo: Cookies and Cups

10. 3D Pumpkin Cake: Halloween may be far away, but a giant 3D baseball cake is likely in our future.  (Recipe and photo: Brit

11. Hunger Games Cupcakes: Channel your inner mockingjay with this fiery foursome of cupcakes. And if you still haven't seen or read The Hunger Games, get yourself prepped with our checklist. (Recipe and photo: Sweet Tooth

12. Sandwich Cake: And finally the only savory one in the bunch, but possibly the kookiest. The sandwich cake has quickly become an office staple, and is just begging for improvisation! (Recipe and photo: Brit)

What are the kookiest cake recipes you've tried at home? We'd love to see photos. Tweet them to @brit or send a note to hello@brit.co.
