Tara Lipinski’s Mom Gave Her the Most Heartwarming Gift Ever on Her Big Wedding Day
Gold medal figure skater Tara Lipinski had a moment to rival her big Olympic win at the 1998 Games in Japan this weekend when she said “I do” to Fox sports producer Todd Kapostasy in a super sweet Southern ceremony.
The couple, who met in 2015 when Lipinski gave her future beau an award at the Sports Emmys, walked down the aisle at Middleton Place in Charleston, South Carolina. According to People, the 35-year-old Olympian stunned in a Reem Acra dress complete with a 20-foot tulle skirt, which she paired with Charlotte Olympia heels.
Other sweet details from the ceremony included lanterns, bridesmaids in flower crowns, and flower girl baskets that were actually made by hand by Lipinski’s mama. Prior to the ceremony, the bride’s mom, to whom she is super close, also gave her “the most beautiful gift” that seemed straight out of a fairytale.
“From the day I was born til the day I got married, she wrote in a book about our journey together as mother and daughter. Holy tears!” Lipinski wrote. Holy tears is right — what an amazing present!
Mama Lipinski wasn’t the only near and dear person to share in the happy couple’s joy: Their guest list also included plenty of greats from the sports world, such as the bride’s former Olympic coaches, sportscaster Andrea Joyce, and fellow figure skater Johnny Weir , who pulled off “bridesman” duties while wearing a very special flower from his BFF. Lipinski posted the above photo, writing: “@johnnygweir a little surprise I made happen for you today. Love you, my partner in crime. Let’s go and get married!! #TNTmeant2be”
Following the big moment, guests dined on a mouth-watering Southern menu created by Cru Catering, featuring “carefully curated apps, dinner, and a special late-night menu,” which included fried chicken and waffles and a waffle cone packed with maple bacon remoulade. YUM!
The venue was covered with “beautiful roses and lace EVERYWHERE!” according to guest Erin Lockwood, with said roses coming courtesy of Jackson Durham Events. In the weeks leading up to the big day, Lipinski revealed there would be “lots of creams, light colors, touches of green with flowers, so we have orchids and roses on roses on roses” to make for her dream “ultra-romantic wedding.”
It appeared to be Kapostasy’s dream, too, as he posted a sweet shot from Lipinski’s bridal shower to his page two weeks prior, writing, “Happy birthday to the end of the line for me. Two weeks and I get to spend the rest of my life with this one. Please, please, please God, just get to June 24th before she changes her mind.”
Looks like he got his wish! Congrats, you two!
