How to Make 3 Party-Perfect Table Runners That Pop

Calling all hostesses with the mostest. It’s time to upgrade your linens. And we’re not talking about a shopping spree. We’re talking about a DIY party involving you, your favorite colors of fabric paint, a few simple tools and a plain white table runner.

For today’s party decor hack, we’ve teamed up with Triscuit to share three simple ways to make your own colorful table runners using three totally different methods. With such a simple set of materials, the possibilities are surprisingly endless. Use this tutorial as a jumping off point for your own creative design ideas!

As you can see, we topped our lovely runners with fruit, veggies and a trio of Triscuit-powered bites! We whipped up the following: Ricotta with Olives and Pomegranate Seeds on Cracked Pepper Triscuit Crackers; Melted Mozzarella with Sweet Cherry Tomatoes and a touch of Chili Flakes on Triscuit Crackers; and Cucumber, Feta and Mint on Triscuit Crackers. Yum!

Now, about those runners ;)

Let’s get to it!

As you can see, the materials for all three projects are pretty simple. Read on to see how each of them come together.

Colorful Stripes

We’ll start with the most basic method — using painter’s tape to create a bunch of colorful stripes.

Tools + Materials:

– table runner

– fabric paint

– painter’s tape

– paintbrushes

Instructions:

1. Use the tape to create lines on your table runner.

2. Paint within your tape lines.

3. Wait for it to dry and then peel the tape!

Use the tape to create lines on your table runner. Place them at different widths to get a mix of different sized stripes. Then paint!

You may need to add a couple of coats depending on the colors you choose.

Once dry, peel away your tape to reveal your stripes.

Done! When choosing your color palette, don’t forget that whatever color your original runner is will be seen. We recommend sticking with a solid base color.

We topped this striped scene with Cucumber, Feta and Mint on Triscuit Crackers. So summery!

Stenciled Floral Pattern

Next up, we found a gorgeous geometric floral stencil to adorn our runner with.

Tools + Materials:

– table runner

– fabric paint

– stencils

– circular foam stamping brush

Instructions:

1. Place the stencil on the table runner and dab with paint.

2. Let it dry and then use it at a party!

Dab the paint on top of the stencil. Make sure to use a thin layer.

Use different colors to create a color blocked stencil effect.

How fun is that? It sort of reminds us of tessellations from elementary school!

To complete the scene, we crafted a mouthwatering platter of Melted Mozzarella with Sweet Cherry Tomatoes and a touch of Chili Flakes on Triscuit Crackers.

We love dreaming up all the different ways you could personalize this design.

Block Printed Triangles

Lastly, we’ve got the most advanced technique — but it’s still pretty simple. No idea where to get craft foam and a wooden block? Well wouldn’t you know it, we’ve got a DIY kit for that. In fact, this kit’s got everything except the runner — but it does have cloth napkins you can make to match.

Tools + Materials:

– table runner

– fabric paint

– wood

– craft foam

– scissors

– hot glue

– paint brushes

– pen

Instructions:

1. Draw and cut out shapes from craft foam.

2. Glue two of the same shapes together and then adhere to your wood block.

3. Cover in a thin layer of paint and then print onto your table runner.

4. Let dry and use for your next party!

Surprise, surprise. We obviously chose a triangle design for our block print. Draw and cut out the shape of your choice!

Glue two of the same shape together. This will give you depth from the wood to create a better print. Adhere your shapes to your wood block.

Cover in a thin layer of paint and stamp onto your runner.

Mix and match your colors to create a dynamic print.

Which way to the party?!

You know what goes well with triangles? Ricotta with Olives and Pomegranate Seeds on Cracked Pepper Triscuit Crackers, naturally! :)

And there you have it — three simple ways to make your very own table runner.
