We all know this: the only thing more annoying than a workout that’s too hard is one that’s too easy. You’re either getting frustrated (or worse, hurt!) or you’re wasting your time and not getting any benefit from your program. These situations are both less than ideal and far too common when working from a one-size-fits-all exercise regimen. While a good personal trainer certainly solves these problems, most of us don’t want to drop the cash on that investment or don’t have the time to get to the gym every day. A newcomer in the exercise app market, FitStar, may be the next best thing.
This iPad app walks the user through workouts which are demonstrated on the display. The workouts can be done anywhere, making them perfect for people on-the-go. What really sets this apart from the other great virtual trainer apps out there is that the program evolves with you. After you finish each workout, the app asks you a series of questions. You tell it how many reps you were able to complete and how you felt throughout the workout. It learns from these responses and adjusts your next workout accordingly so you’re being pushed, but not too far.
Because FitStar adjusts to your individual fitness level, this app is a great fit for just about everyone from couch potatoes to pro athletes. It features Tony Gonzalez, NFL All-Star, as your trainer, which is just about as much motivation as you can ask for. Speaking of motivation, there’s also Facebook integration, so you can share your workouts with friends and family, and root each other on as you each take on your own individual fitness journey. I can’t wait to use this with my husband :)
While the app itself is free, individual workout programs range from $0-$12 depending on what you’re looking for. These programs are catered to what you’re looking to get from your plan: from the basic (and free!) “Get Moving” to the killer, 12-week “Get Lean,” there’s definitely something that’ll fit your goals. And what better time than summer? You’ll be looking ripped up in that swimsuit in no time!
I’m loving this app for those who are just embarking on a fitness program or for anyone who’s looking to spice up their routine. Here’s to a healthier world.
