Bella Hadid, Beyoncé, and More Show How to Slay the Halfie Hair Trend
The ponytail and a half-up, half-down ‘do aren’t anything new, but when you blend the two together, a trendy style is born. Recently revived thanks to celebs like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Zendaya, and Bella Hadid, the halfie hairstyle is a versatile look that brings a polished vibe to any outfit. Read on to learn more about this look and how to make it your own.
This trend, which became popular in the ‘60s, is having a modern moment. “Halfie hair is a high ponytail at the crown of the head that allows for length and texture in the back,” says Oribe educator Adam Livermore. “It has evolved throughout the decades and became popular again in the last few years.” Good news: If you can style a ponytail, you’ll be able to master this in no time.
Start by applying a volumizing mousse to your dry hair, ensuring that it’s fully worked in and even throughout your strands — this will give it a plumped-up, full look. Add in extra oomph by running a curling iron or wand through your hair. “Brush out your curls for modern texture and spray Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($46) throughout,” Livermore explains. “After that, section the hair horizontally, starting right behind your ear, using a comb.”
Now for the fun part. Grab that upper section of hair and secure it at the top of your head with an elastic band. “Be sure to situate the ponytail right at the crown and not too high on your head,” he warns. “Finish the look by wrapping a piece of hair from the ponytail around the base and secure it underneath with a bobby pin.” Apply a mist of hairspray or shine spray to seal in your look, and you’ve got your celeb-approved ‘do.
