Former Hills stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt welcomed their first child, Gunner Stone, on Sunday, October 1. And while the couple had been over-the-top extra about Montag’s pregnancy on social media (in the best way, obvs), our first look at their baby boy has come not via Twitter and Instagram but on the cover of Us Weekly.
The cover shows Pratt and Montag beaming as they hold baby Gunner wrapped in a blanket. The headline calls him their “miracle baby,” something that Pratt reiterated with the praying-hands emoji when he shared the image on social media on Wednesday.
Montag has hinted at pregnancy struggles in the past but has not elaborated on any potential medical issues. In February, she congratulated her former Hills costars Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port on their pregnancies, and said that while she was excited for her own family, the timing hadn’t been right for her and Pratt. Last year, she said she “had to pray to get my husband to even…agree to have a kid.”
Now that Gunner is here, though, Pratt has big dreams for his little boy. He told Us Weekly he wants his son to be a professional athlete someday — preferably a left-handed pitcher in the MLB. “He’ll probably be a pitcher, so when Gunner steps to the mound, he’s going to be gunning those throws down home plate,” the new dad quipped.
The name is a good fit in more ways than one. “Gunner has been on my top names since before Spencer even agreed to have kids,” Montag told the mag of the adorable moniker.
The former MTV star detailed the kind of mom she hoped to be in an episode of her pregnancy podcast earlier this year, saying she wanted to be “calm, cool, and loving.” Pratt, of course, is focused on getting Gunner the verified blue check mark on Instagram, after previously joking on the Allegedly With Theo Von & Matthew Cole Weiss podcast that he “would just like my baby to be a professional content maker.” We’d say that’s already well underway!
