People Are Always Asking Me Where I Got My… Vintage Camel Overcoat
Finding an item that perfectly speaks to your personal style is tougher than it seems. So when we discover something that’s really special — whether it be a clothing swap score or a designer sample sale find — we want to rock it with everything. We’re all about unearthing fashion gems to round out our closets so we turned to thrift store aficionado and Brit + Co Creative Content Producer, Cassidy Miller, to learn about her most treasured clothing item. We found out her number-one most sought-after staple is — no surprise — a vintage piece that we’re seriously digging.
Brit + Co: What’s the one item that people are always asking about?
Cassidy Miller: My camel-colored wool overcoat.
B+C: Where did you discover it?
CM: I actually found it at a Goodwill for seven dollars.
B+C: What do you love about it specifically?
CM: I love that it can be styled up or down and worn year-round. It’s great for the winter season layered on top of a turtleneck. It also works for spring, paired with a graphic tee and skirt. Can you really ask for more in a coat?
B+C: How often do you wear it?
CM: Probably at least once a week — I think it really elevates my outfits and makes them look chicer.
B+C: What are some of your other fave go-to items and closet staples?
CM: I wear my checkered slip-on Vans more days than not. They are so comfy, and IMO they go with everything. My other staple is statement earrings because they always make a casual outfit a little bit more special.
B+C: What advice do you have for girls who are trying to refine their personal style and find the perfect staple closet items?
CM: Based on the conversations I’ve had with friends, a lot of people seem to feel overwhelmed by thrifting. The best place to start is at a more elevated vintage shop because the curators have already done the hard work for you, picking out the best pieces to display and sell. Then maybe hit up your local flea market or Goodwill armed with lots of coffee and a buddy. Take your time to find your staple pieces. It’s so much better in the long run to have timeless pieces that will last you throughout the years.
Love Cassidy’s vintage overcoat? It’s time to get your thrift on and find your own fave! And if you’re feelin’ a little too lazy-girl for the flea-market method, then you can opt for similar styles like this Everlane Cocoon Coat ($225) or Zara Wool Coat ($149).
