Made Us Look: Real-Life Instagram Street Art

You know how we’re always touting around new ways to turn your Instagram photos into real-life objects and prints? Well, how about going backwards and turning the entire Instagram app into a real-life street art installation?

Artist Bruno Ribeiro has taken it upon himself to adorn the streets of London with a pretty thought-provoking and highly topical series, entitled Real-Life Instagram. He created an analog version of the app made of cardboard and different shades of cellophane (read: filters!) and has been sticking it to posts or walls all over London to frame famous landmarks, unusual views, and even other pieces of street art!

And guess what people did when they started seeing his pieces? Took out their phones so they could post it on Instagram. What! Yes — it’s InstaInstagram.

As the artist told Fast Company, he’s not anti-Instagram. He loves the fact that it has brought photography to everyone’s daily lives and has made people “more observant of details — things we haven’t seen before.” But, he also criticizes how Instagram is yet another way we are tethered to our phones. Every experience must immediately be Instagrammed, or it’s like it never happened. Of course, that’s not true at all but it is definitely a common mentality, even if it’s subconscious.

The project aims to help people to take a moment to notice things as they pass by. He’s put up 30 frames so far, choosing places he would post on Instagram if only he had his iPhone ;)

All in all, we think this is an awesome project! It’s such a cool way of seeing an app come to life, quite literally.

Only a few years ago, they found it was too hard to make a living as artists in Houston, so they moved to LA. Now, they’ve moved back to discover there are now so many murals in Houston. The city is more supportive of street artists, and its streets and buildings vibrantly reflect that payoff. Reno, NV: Reno is home to one of the most underrated art scenes in the country — including the exhibits on display at the Nevada Museum of Art. Book a Public Art Tour with Art Spot Reno (motto: “More Art Everywhere”); if you're stuck at your desk, you can follow them on Instagram @ArtSpotReno to get a sense of the innovative, large-scale street art popping up on every corner. Detroit, MI: It shouldn’t come as a shock that the famously resilient Music City (also known as the home of Motown) also boasts a lively and expressive street art scene. New York City, NY: Naturally NYC would be on this list. Of the concrete jungle’s many visual attractions, we’re partial to "I Feel You Baby" in the West Village and the street murals along Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg. Another favorite comes courtesy of one of our favorite Instagrammers, Arianna Margulis of @ButLikeMaybe, who collaborated with Planned Parenthood on a mural in the East Village. Miami, FL: The exciting street murals in Miami would suggest local artists are up "all night in the streets until the break of dawn" (if you'll forgive the Will Smith reference), and you wouldn’t be wrong. Austin, TX: We all know that famous "I Love You So Much" mural that gets so much circulation on Instagram. But we’d venture that many would be surprised to realize it wasn’t in New York or LA, but Austin, Texas. The arts culture is just one of the many things that “Keep Austin Weird,” and if you also love live music and food trucks, it’s high time you book your ticket to this trendy city in Texas Hill Country ASAP. Los Angeles, CA: The City of Angels is another must-visit for street art, particularly in the hippie-centric neighborhood of Venice Beach (though, of course, those in the know often now claim Silver Lake as the intellectual/creative LA hotspot). This street art culture is as integral to the "LA renaissance" as Mulholland Distilling, LA’s first spirits brand established post-Prohibition. Honolulu, HI: The land of double rainbows and world wonders is also home to some man-made spectacles as well — we’re talking about the street murals, of course. Art lovers should be saying aloha and mahalo to Honolulu: this city on the island of Oahu is a spot for aesthetes of all kinds to appreciate the vibrant colors and energy of the Hawaiian culture, rendered in painted form. Dallas, TX: Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes street art. Perhaps the influx of creativity in the state's street art scene is reflective of the state embracing artists more, but whatever the reason, the murals in Dallas often speak to our larger condition as a nation. When the current state of affairs is too wild for even the Wild Wild West (last Will Smith reference, we promise), then we certainly have some reflecting to do. Austin Butler as Elvis, Selena Gomez as Linda Rondstat, and now Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan — there will never be enough biopics for me! (The real question is when are we going to get a Taylor Swift movie?). When pictures from the set of the new Bob Dylan movie, A Complete Unknown, hit Twitter, I had to do a double take because Timothée Chalamet looks so much like the musician I couldn't believe my eyes!

Timothée is going to be joined by Met Gala queen Elle Fanning, as well as Top Gun superstar Monica Barbaro. Here's everything you need to know about the movie — and our favorite Bob Dylan songs to listen to while you wait for its release.

Elle Fanning totally embodies the late '60s vibe in this fall outfit. The bold maroon blazer, the long straight hair, and the striped turtleneck — I love it all! Elle is starring this Bob Dylan movie as Sylvie Russo, a university student and artist Bob falls for in the '60s.

Thanks to some onset leaks, we also got a glimpse of the movie's version of The Freewheelin'! Elle Fanning and Timothée Chalamet look incredible as Sylvia Russo and Bob Dylan. I'm a sucker for any kind of recreation, so seeing this new version of the classic record cover is incredible!!

Timothée Chalamet has totally transformed into Bob Dylan on the set of A Complete Unknown. And when I saw the pictures of Timothée carrying the guitar my jaw dropped!! He completely engrossed himself in Wonka and Dune 2 and I'm so excited to see him do the same for this Bob Dylan movie.

Timothée Chalamet's Bob Dylan movie is called A Complete Unknown. As of March 2024, the movie is filming around New York City, and James Mangold is serving as director (you might recognize his name from Logan, Girl, Interrupted, and Walk the Line). The movie will reportedly cover the period during the 1960s when Bob Dylan shifted from folk to rock'n'roll, changing the face of pop culture (and culture in general, TBH), forever.

"When that movie finally comes out, people are going to be shocked because you're going to think you're hearing Bob Dylan sing," vocal coach Eric Vetro tells PEOPLE. "[Timothée Chalamet] just has this uncanny ability to not impersonate, but really breathe life into it. He's embodying Bob Dylan and what he was like at that age."

We don't have an official release date for A Complete Unknown. However, since filming has already commenced, there's a good chance we'll see the movie in the fall of 2025. And since Timothée Chalamet has been seen in turtlenecks, hats, and jackets on set, this sounds like the perfect fall movie to me!

I always need some brand new music to listen to once the weather gets chilly, and I will for sure be listening to anything Timothée records.

Bob Dylan wrote "Things Have Changed" for the 2000 movie Wonder Boys, which starred Michael Douglas, Tobey Maguire, and Katie Holmes. This Bob Dylan song ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Original Songand the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song!

"Knockin' On Heaven's Door," which is arguably the singer's most popular track, was released two months after the 1973 premiere of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid as a part of the film's soundtrack.

I totally agree that one of the best Bob Dylan songs is "Knockin' On Heaven's Door," but "Blowin' In The Wind" and "The Times They Are A-Changin'" are also great songs to listen to if you're a new Bob Dylan fan. So far, "The Times They Are A-Changin'" is my personal favorite song.

His style is the perfect blend of rock and folk that reminds me of summer picnics and walks in the woods. His sound also reportedly inspired Taylor Swift's Folklore!

Banksy’s Newest Art Depicts Apple’s Steve Jobs like You’ve Never Seen Him Before

Notoriously talented and mysterious street artist Banksy has never been one to stray from sharing his thoughts on controversial topics via a can of spraypaint. His past works have depicted scenes like a pair of English policemen sharing a kiss and a white dove flying in a bulletproof vest. So it should come as no surprise that amidst the trending discussions surrounding the refugee crisis, Banksy decided to chime – er, paint – in. And in typical Banksy fashion, he did so in a big way.

The UK-based artist recently shared a new piece of work on his site which portrays Apple’s iconic Steve Jobs as a refugee. Jobs’s name tends to come up in refugee-related discussions because the wildly successful co-founder of Apple is also the son of a Syrian migrant. Jobs’ father Abdul Fattah Jandali moved to the US in the 1950s from Homs because of civil unrest.

The Banksy piece is located on a wall in France’s infamous Calais refugee camp commonly referred to as “the jungle.” The camp, which is located near French ports and the Eurotunnel (which connects to the UK), is currently flooded with an estimated 3,000 refugees. Since 2014, there have been 39,000 documented attempts to cross the Channel – many of which were made by people residing here.

In a rare occurrence, Banksy also released a statement to accompany the new piece. He writes, “Apple is the world’s most profitable company, it pays over $7bn (£4.6bn) a year in taxes – and it only exists because they allowed in a young man from Homs.”

"Sweet Magnolias" Season 4 Is Officially Filming!

Like any good comfort show, Sweet Magnolias feels like a warm hug (even if it's a nice spring day — the show is just that good!). Watching this series feels like drinking the perfect glass of iced tea...plus it'll make you appreciate your female friendships even more than you already do. Even though season 3 ended on a high note, showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson promises there will be more drama in the future (which feels true to life — when is there never not drama IRL?).

Kristen Stewart's new movie is called Flesh of the Gods, and like all good things, the movie is set in 1980s Los Angeles. Kristen plays Alex, who's married to Raoul (played by Oscar Isaac). Every night, the wealthy couple swaps their luxury condo for the electricity of LA's nighttime scene. But when they come face-to-face with a mysterious and lively group, Alex and Raoul are swept up in a violent and glamorous world they never knew existed.

“Like Los Angeles itself Flesh of the Gods inhabits the liminal realm between fantasy and nightmare,” producer Gena Konstantinakos told Hollywood Reporter. “Both propulsive and hypnotic, Flesh will take you on a hot rod joy ride deep into the glittering heart of hell.”

If you're a Kristen Stewart fan then you've probably already seen Twilight, but one of my favorite movies as a kid was Catch That Kid. She most recently starred in Love Lies Bleeding, and Speak and Snow White and the Huntsman are fan favorites too!

Oscar Isaac starred in Marvel'sMoon Knight in 2022, and was recently on Broadway in The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window. He's also had roles in Dune, Scenes from a Marriage, and Ex Machina.
