Here’s How to Work Out like FLOTUS
If you’ve ever wondered just how Michelle Obama manages to keep those arms so impeccably toned, she has an answer for you. The first lady has just released a video sharing exactly what she gets up to at the gym and no, a pilates session is not involved.
Michelle’s video was prompted by a challenge from her husband. To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the first lady’s Let’s Move campaign, President Obama created a video sharing five ways he stays healthy on a daily basis. Naturally, his techniques were all very presidential: walking and talking during one-on-one meetings, making sure to have veggies on his plate, taking the stairs when the secret service allows, etc. At the end of the video he then challenged Michelle to share her #GimmeFive – a fitness campaign Michelle launched earlier this year that challenges people to think of five ways you can be healthy and share them via social media. Beyoncé has even joined in on the fun.
Of course, Michelle accepted her husband’s challenge. Her #GimmeFive looked less regal and more like something you might expect to see in a scene from Rocky. She starts with a bit of jump rope (and some really impressive footwork) then moves on to several different ab workouts using a medicine ball. After that, it’s onto a set of explosive squats, some free weight arm exercises and finally FLOTUS shows a punching bag who’s boss. We’re kind of starting to wonder if Michelle really even needs secret service at all.
