Robert Pattinson Says He’s “Kind of” Engaged to FKA Twigs
Robert Pattinson sat in the hot seat this morning on SiriusXM’s Howard Stern Show, talking about everything from why he almost got fired from Twilight to how he’s “kind of” engaged to UK singer FKA twigs.
Pattinson reportedly proposed in early 2015, but neither he nor FKA twigs has ever talked about it publicly. So on Tuesday, Stern asked Pattinson to confirm that he was, in fact, engaged to his girlfriend of three years. Pattinson’s response? “Kind of.” The radio host howled back, “Kind of?! Wait ’til she hears this!”
Pattinson said in the interview that he likes to keep his private life private, but that it can have its own challenges. He’s been working on “creating a big boundary between” himself and the public, but admitted that “then it makes it difficult for your actual relationship.” He did say, though, that FKA twigs is “amazing” and “super talented.”
Elsewhere in the interview, he explained what happened on the set of Twilight all those years ago that led to his near-dismissal. “Now the whole series is known as a brooding thing, but I remember the producers giving me the book and every single instance where my character smiled, they’d highlight,” he told Stern.
“I was very serious. I thought at the time — I was 21 — if you were going into a relationship with someone, the way you could make it really intense was if you could barely talk to each other, you could barely touch each other, incredibly serious all the time,” he said. “Everyone was like, ‘No, it should be happy and having fun! That’s what people want!'”
Eventually, his agents had to step in and tell him, “You have to do the opposite of what you’re doing now or you’re going to get fired today.” That changed Pattinson’s tune.
