Here’s How to Get Kendall Jenner’s Marilyn Monroe-Inspired Relaxed Bob
Kendall Jenner showed up to the Valerian premiere to support her supermodel and actress friend Cara Delevingne, and she didn’t miss the opportunity to go completely glam for the occasion. On the carpet, she opted for old Hollywood-inspired hair that you can actually do yourself.
Jenner complemented her deconstructed Carmen March mini dress with a jostled Marilyn Monroe-inspired lob styled by her go-to hair guru, Jen Atkin. She took to her app and website to break down how she got the icon’s modernized look so you can try it at home!
First, she prepped her hair with Ouai Wave Spray ($26). For a more budget-friendly option that’ll still get you that texture you’re looking for, you can use Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Soft Wave Spray ($6). Then, she blow dried her hair with the Dyson Supersonic Blow Dryer ($399) while using a YS Park G-Series Curl Shine Styler Round Brush ($70). Of course, your go-to hairdryer and round brush could definitely also do the trick.
The next step was a little old school — setting her hair in T3 Volumizing Hot Rollers ($119). If you don’t have hot rollers at home, you can invest in the T3 ones, or alternately the Conair Infinity Pro Curling Hot Rollers ($40) works great as well. When the rollers come out, spray the hair with texturizing spray. She used Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray ($26). Try Eva NYC Surfs Up! Texture Spray ($12).
Then, things get a little more technical. “Starting at the nape, back-comb hair in sections using a boar bristle brush like a Mason Pearson Brush ($205) and mold into a wave,” she writes in the tutorial. “Continue with the rest of the hair.” Once you’ve completed this step, you’re basically done. Just use hairspray all over to keep everything in place. Atkin went with Balmain Session Spray Medium ($40) for Jenner’s soft waves, but feel free to use your fave spray to get the hold.
And that’s it! Jenner suggests her favorite products on her site, but you might have your favorite versions ready to go in your makeup drawer. Try this look and take it out on the town knowing you have the influence of old and new Hollywood on your head.
