Serena Williams Responded to a Racist Remark About Her Baby and Her Response Is Perfect
Serena Williams isn’t just the best tennis player of all time — she’s also the queen of the clapback. While we’ve just learned that the star is pregnant with her first baby, she’s already heard a mouthful of hate from another tennis player. After perfectly shutting down some sexist commentary back in 2015, it’s surprising that anyone would have the nerve to come at her again, yet tennis player Ilie Nastaste had something to say about her unborn baby during a press conference last week. And of course, Williams had to let him know why he’s so wrong.
During a press conference at a tennis event, former tennis star Ilie Nastaste interjected when player Simona Halep was asked a question regarding Serena’s announcement. Before she had a chance to answer, he chimed in, “Let’s see what color it has. Chocolate with milk?”
What.
In a post on her Instagram account, Williams called out Nastaste and asked the International Tennis Federation to consider “all the facts” in the case as to why his words were beyond inappropriate (and downright racist). Nylon Magazine says the ITF is investigating Nastaste and he’s currently suspended from all international tennis events until further notice.
Williams also reaffirms her goal to pour “love, light and positivity” into everything she does. And she promises that she’ll continue to “take a lead and stand up for what’s right.”
