Welcome to Brit + Co’s Weekly Entertainment Planner! Each Monday, we highlight one thing we’re excited about in six categories — movies, TV, music, streaming services, podcasts, and a bonus pick from all of the above — to help you navigate your week in watching and listening. Check out our picks for the week of July 2 to 8 below. Your eyes and your ears will thank us!
Movies
Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6): Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly star as Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, respectively, in the sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man. This installation falls in the MCU between Captain America: Civil War and the latest record-setting blockbuster, Avengers: Infinity War, and sees Scott Lang (AKA Ant-Man) struggling to fulfill his superhero duties as he completes a house arrest. TV
Sharp Objects (July 8): Amy Adams stars in the HBO series adaptation of Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn’s 2006 debut novel of the same name. Adams portrays a young reporter who is released from a psychiatric hospital, only to be sent on assignment to investigate two gruesome murders in her hometown — and confront her troubled past while she’s at it. Streaming
Samantha! (July 6): This subtitled Brazilian comedy tells the story of Samantha (Emanuelle Araujo), a child star of the ’80s who is clinging to fame by any means necessary. It’s goofy, sweet, and hilarious, and fits in nicely among Netflix’s growing number of originals. It’ll be available for streaming on Friday, July 6. (Photo via Fabio Braga/Netflix)
Podcasts
You Can’t Make This Up: Netflix has had a number of successful true crime and documentary originals, and their new podcast gets into the nitty-gritty details on the stories behind them. Subscribe to You Can’t Make This Upwherever you get your podcasts.
Music
Drake, Scorpion: The fifth studio album from the internet’s boyfriend, Canadian rapper Drake, is a double one, and it’s full of both the hooks we’ve come to love him for, and some stunning personal admissions — like his confirmation that he does, in fact, have an eight-month-old son. It’s available as of Friday, June 29, and will definitely be the soundtrack to your summer. (Photo via Kevin Winter/Getty Images for Coachella)
Bonus
Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular (July 4): Macy’s annual 4th of July fireworks display will be set off from barges in NYC’s East River, but if you’re not there to see it in person, worry not! NBC will once again air the phenomenal pyrotechnics display, with additional performances from Kelly Clarkson, Ricky Martin, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and more. American Ninja Warrior’s Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila return for the second year as hosts, and you can watch it all on Wednesday, July 4, from 8 to 10pm ET on NBC.
