Get the Look of The Mindy Project’s Colorful NYC Apartment
When it comes to style, The Mindy Project‘s leading lady, Mindy Kaling, knows a thing or two about rocking complementary colors. On the show, Mindy Lahiri’s glamorous NYC apartment is practically a costar — the fabulous space boasts exposed brick, stylish accessories and plenty of bold colors and patterns to go with Mindy’s vibrant personality. April 12 is right around the corner, but if you just can’t wait ’til the midseason premiere and need to have that Mindy style 24/7, here’s how you can get the look on your very own. You might not be able to throw around comebacks like the ever-witty Dr. Lahiri, but at least you can get her turquoise chandelier.
Mindy’s apartment is only one bedroom, but it’s bright and colorful and full of personality. Her gorgeous white couches are always covered in a rotating collection of fab throw pillows. The colors teal and orange show up throughout the apartment and bring everything together. Now if only there was a story to go with that sword on the wall.
Contrast a glamorous couch with a few industrial-style pieces like an adjustable stool and a metal orb chandelier. If you’re brave enough to go with a white couch, pile on the colorful throw pillows and get some color on the ground with a shag orange rug.
Target Dakota Adjustable Stool ($80), Benita Antique Black Metal Sphere Crystal Chandelier ($153), Houzz Hanne Chesterfield Sofa ($3272), St. Croix Shimmer Hand-Loomed Orange Area Rug ($106), H&M Velvet Cushion Cover ($10), Jonathan Adlar Tonal Blue Bargello Honeycomb Pillow ($165)
There’s not a viewer out there who isn’t just a little bit jealous of Mindy’s epic silk headboard. She always contrasts darker sheets with a neutral and feminine duvet. Her signature pop of orange comes in the form of a small task lamp which is ideal for getting through those piles of books on her bookshelf.
Get the same modern, feminine vibes in your bedroom with orange accents like a task lamp and new sheets. Add personality to your #shelfie game with a pink gem speaker and a metallic pug sculpture.

When Mindy doesn’t have a house full of people, she uses her dining room as a workspace/place to video journal all her deepest thoughts. A tufted bench and armchairs work double duty as dining room seating and occasional living room seating when she’s entertaining.
Benches and arm chairs are great multipurpose pieces of furniture that easily transition from the dining room to the living room – a huge win if you have a one bedroom apartment. Even a small space will benefit from a statement light, and a set of crystal bookends and some colorful blackout curtains will add a modern edge.
One King’s Lane Large Rose Quartz Bookends ($179), Target Skyline Custom Upholstered Chair ($400), Hayneedle Mystere Peacock Tufted Bench ($440), Decorprice AF Lighting Fulton Chandelier ($198), Commonwealth Home Fashions Thermalogic Grommet Top Curtain Pairs ($47)
Mindy’s kitchen is pretty simple. Although she’s lucky enough to have lots of natural light and a huge kitchen island, Mindy Lahiri eats apple pies from the vending machine, so cuisine is hardly her focus. But that doesn’t stop her from rocking the colorful accessories, and her open shelves are full of awesome dishes — even though the only thing she regularly reaches for are the wine glasses.
Whether you’re a takeout kind of gal or you love cooking up a good meal every night, you can’t go wrong with essentials like a stovetop coffee maker and a tea pot. Grab a set of oil and vinegar holders for your salad, and mix up a batch of sangria in a colorful pitcher. Mindy would approve.
