IKEA Wants to Let You Run a DIY Restaurant for Your Friends
We know you love IKEA (2017 catalog rustic chic minimalism FTW) and certainly adore DIY-goodness, and frankly, we’re more than used to the two combining. Who hasn’t spent a night (or an entire weekend) putting together a POÄNG or a MALM? While stopping for a snack in IKEA’s restaurant is common enough for most shoppers of the Swedish decor superstore, now IKEA is introducing a new way to eat that combines their penchant for asking their visitors to take on a DIY approach and their yummy Scandinavian delights. That’s right, IKEA is opening a “do-it-yourself restaurant” that gives you the chance to run your very own pro-eating experience.
IKEA’s new DIY offering comes via their Dining Club and will allow you to prepare a meal for up to 19 of your friends under the supervision of a professional head chef. “Diners will orchestrate an intimate foodie experience in a homely kitchen environment to mimic an actual dinner party, but one where diners can host many more guests than usual.”
They’re giving you the chance to create your own menu — and even name the temp restaurant! — so that you can try out some special Scandinavian dishes to serve to your friends, family and any other famished folks you want to invite.
It’s a free experience for anyone who wants to participate (woo!); the only catch is that the Dining Club is located in Shoreditch, east London, and will only be open from September 10 to September 25. If you have a chance to go, be sure to enjoy a Swedish meatball or two for us.
