The Best Makeup for Your Zodiac Sign: Leo Edition
The Leo lioness is coming in fierce for this month’s installation of our Zodiac Beauty series. We’re shifting our focus from Cancer’s neutral bronze look to a bold and uncompromising beauty that is as colorful as it is chic. Inspired by this sign’s look-at-me appeal, we’ve created an epic eye perfect for day or night. Let’s also give a special shoutout to our newest beauty babe, Basma Khairy, who guest stars as our lovely Leo this month. Here’s how you can recreate Leo’s star-guided celestial look for any occasion!
Leo Beauty Profile
Our beloved Leo boasts a big heart that drives passion and creativity — two traits that balance out her occasional stubborn need to plan every second of every minute. With her playful and spunky charisma, she tends to be most comfortable when she’s the center of attention, which is why this gaze-grabbing purple shimmer eye is the focal point of her awe-inspiring style. Pair this statement eye with luminous skin and a clean nude lip for a look that turns heads and speaks volumes.
Get the Look for Leo: Shimmering Purple Eye, Glowing Skin + Nude Lip
Prep — Flawless Face + Luminous Highlighter: Follow our flawless face makeup tutorial to create a base for the rest of your glowing look. The key component here is radiant skin courtesy of a highlighter like Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighting Powder Duo ($30). Apply the highlighter using a fan brush, gliding along your upper cheekbones (slightly over your blush) up onto your temples, down the bridge of your nose and right above your cupid’s bow.
Step 1 — Purple Shimmer Eye: Apply a bright reflective purple shadow like Lime Crime Superfoil Wet/Dry Foil Eyeshadow Duo in Cosmic ($18) to your lids. To make this look really pop, you can add a highlight to the inside corners of your eyes and your brow bones. I love using Urban Decay Cosmetics Naked Palette in Virgin ($54). The light shadow will help add dimension to your eyes that you can’t create using just one color.
Step 2 — Bright Pink Cheeks: Add a bright pink blush to the apples of your cheeks to enhance the overall glow and draw attention to the eyes. I used Baked Gelato Vivid Swirl Blush in Guava ($26) because of its warm finish.
Step 3 — Nude Lip: Since you already have a really bold eye and a slightly dramatic cheek, you want to go neutral with your lip choice. A longtime obsession of mine is Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Sophia ($20) for that perfectly simple nude lip.
Finishing Touches — Mascara Up: Finally, add a coat or two of your favorite mascara to complete this look.
