Last night we watched as some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry walked the red carpet of the Met Gala. We saw Beyoncé’s barely-there dress, Sarah Jessica Parker’s insane headdress and who can forget about Rhianna’s monumental gown (you probably saw it transformed into a pizza or an omelette on the Internet this morning). As far as hairstyles go, Katie Holmes’ fresh cut was causing the most commotion – that is, until Miley Cyrus arrived.

Always one to take a fashion risk, Miley showed up to the 2015 Met Gala rocking icy blue hair. But wait, it wasn’t just blue it was blue and sparkly! Sorry, Hilary Duff but Miley definitely just snagged the award for best mermaid hair.

Considering Miley’s rambunctious style we can’t say we’re even a little bit surprised that she traded her bleach blonde locks for a colorful hue. In fact, we’re surprised she waited this long. Cyrus also received some attention last week over a snap she posted showing her rocking bright pink armpit hair. While dyed armpits + a new hair color probably would have sent the Internet into total chaos, it looks like she opted to keep the former hidden for the evening under her studded Alexander Wang gown.

It’s unclear whether the new color is temporary or permanent (we’ll have to stalk Miley’s Insta for a post-Met selfie to figure that out), but either way we’re major fans. What we’re most eager to find out is if the luminous element of the new color sticks. If it does we kind of need to know how she managed that ASAP. Could shimmery hair be the next evolution of rainbow-colored locks? We really, really hope so.
