4 Ways to Wear a Harness Like Taylor Swift
When getting dressed for a date with your BFF we might throw on a midi dress, some cut-off shorts or maybe an easy breezy crop top. But when Taylor Swift recently grabbed lunch with Selena Gomez she didn’t opt for any of these clothing choices. Instead, she threw on a harness. Yup, like a leather harness. Taylor layered the look with a graphic tank, some super short shorts and a pair of booties (Check out the full ensemble here).
On her Tumblr, Swift addressed the bold sartorial risk. She writes, “My harness and I are always ready for a zip line/rock climbing. Ask yourself… Are you ready for extreme adventure should it present itself? HARNESS LIFE 2015.” Never one to wear something too risque, Taylor’s ensemble proved that you can indeed wear a harness without looking like a walking interpretation of Fifty Shades of Grey. If you’re looking to test out this emerging trend but you’re not sure how, here are four ways to style the look.
Concert Tee + Thick Leather Harness
Copy Taylor’s look by rocking a weathered concert tee like this Rolling Stones option ($64) with a harness that’s equally as bad ass. We’re all about this one from BLACKHORNE ($86). Pull the look together with some high rise black skinny jeans and a killer pair of booties. Consider this a modern day version of Sandy’s final ensemble in Grease.
Minimal Midi Dress + Delicate Harness
If you’re still adjusting to the idea of wearing a harness in public, start off with a super delicate option like this one from Free People ($48). Pop it on over a minimal midi ($16) for a super fashionable, not too over the top kind of look.
Slim Cut Crop Top + Fitted Harness
While a loose harness is great for baggier pieces like a concert tee or low-key midi dress, a fitted alternative is perfect for making a slim cut top look extra sexy. Pop this D-Ring Leather Harness ($49) on over a tight crop like this one from American Apparel ($26) for a look with definite edge that’s just slightly softened by a fun print.
Button Down + Chain Harness
Not sure how well a leather harness will do down at the office? Here’s a combo that’s perfect for everything from an afternoon meeting to a casual date night. A chain harness like this one from ASOS Curve ($15) offers a softer vibe, while a crisp button down like this one from Everlane ($45) adds a formal touch.
